Online Hackers Threaten to Expose Cartel's Secrets
Houston Chronicle ^ | 10/28/2011 | Dane Shiller

An international group of online hackers is warning a Mexican drug cartel to release one of its members, kidnapped from a street protest, or it will publish the identities and addresses of the syndicate's associates, from corrupt police to taxi drivers, as well as reveal the syndicates' businesses.

The vow is a bizarre cyber twist to Mexico's ongoing drug war, as a group that has no guns is squaring off against the Zetas, a cartel blamed for thousands of deaths as well as introducing beheadings and other frightening brutality.

"You made a huge mistake by taking one of us. Release him," says a masked man in a video posted online on behalf of the group, Anonymous.

It really doesn’t matter what the nature of “anonymous” is, kids in mom’s basement, or a serious collection of seasoned cyber professionals, because just making the claim they do and the intended recipients of the threat takes some serious gonads.

You want the truth? Well YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH!

No seriously, I really REALLY hate it when FR people here post idiotic STUPID stuff like that over at DU....

“ANONYMOUS” are heroes to the DU’ers... when they don’t even exist.

“...Never ever f@#k with people that are more able and willing to kill...”

I was taught two rules many long years ago...
1) NEVER EVER “F” with someone that you don’t know nothing about.
)2 NEVER EVER tell someone that you are going to cut them until after you have done it.

I worked for the district counsel for the IRS one year in law school, under a guy who was researching a mafia case. It was interesting to learn that these were just foul-mouthed, greedy thugs. Absolutely no glamour or mystique, like the movies. No reason to think Zetas are any better, and much reason to think they are even baser. It’s important to keep perspective.

No doubt the illiterate Mexicans that carry machine guns and kill people for $25 US for their bosses (who advanced by killing anybody in their way) and have never even heard of the internet are shaking in their boots.

I'll bet releasing the cartel's business would reveal some extremely interesting information about highly placed gubbermint officials--of both mejico and the US gubmints.

Or maybe not. It is no surprise to anyone that Johnny Sutton is on the Sinaloa Cartel's payroll.

You’re missing the point, Mac.

If Anonymous doesn’t exist, there is a kid in Mexico who is damn clever and willing to take a risk for his friend/brother in a most unconventional manner.

I don’t intend to get into a flame war with ya; that would be like the DU fruitcakes you apparently keep track of. So this is my last response to you. Have a nice weekend.

How is it that these guys can get this info, but the feds can't? Or is it that the feds have the info but don't use it because of political pressure from office holders that have been bought?

We know that this Regime has been working closely with the Sinaloa Cartel, as has previous administrations and legacy departments. We now know through F&F that the Sinaloa Cartel is protected and helped by BATFE, DHS and the department of State.

A greater possibility than what you mentioned is that the US government through the FBI, CIA and NSA will provide information about "Anonymous" to the enforcement branch of the Cartels and then turn the other way once this information has been acted upon by the Zetas.

These hackers have not made friends with the various governments, this seems like a clean way to dispatch an enemy without having tracks leading to Holder's door.

I don’t care what this “anonymous” is or isn’t or if this guy is alone or if there are a thousand of them. Bad guys kidnapped his friend and instead of trusting some corrupt government or dirty bunch of cops, he’s trying to get him back himself - knowing these people are lunatic killers.

Balls. We should all hope to have friends as good as this guy.

These computer geeks better be carefull...they aren’t threatening a gov’t that’s going to arrest them. Zeta’s will cut your head off and mail it to your family! I say good that someone has some cajones to stand up to these guys but bluster and threats don’t scare monsters like these...

I give the folks an A for effort. Good gesture.

Sad that the person who was abducted was probably skinned alive and castrated within an hour of the abduction though. This isn’t Hollywood folks, it’s Mehico.

You would be amazed at what the DEA has on file at its El Paso Intelligence Center (EPIC), At least two former South American presidents were involved in narcotics activity and were on the “watch” list which should have precluded their visit to the USA, but didn’t. The number of cousins, brothers, uncles, aunts, etc., of important people who are involved in drug trafficking is breathtaking. I can recall on one occasion when the Attorney General of Mexico, who was a top narcotics figure, was holding a conference on drugs. The DEA knew all about it, as did the State Department, but the phoney conference was held just as though it had some meaning.
