Former presidential candidate and current media mogul Steve Forbes said Thursday the Texas Republican governor Rick Perry is likely to capture the Republican presidential nomination.
"He was good on taxes and spending in Texas; he was very good on tort reform. Texas has been a cesspool for injury lawyers, and he made major changes - and the proof of it was they all moved to Oklahoma. And obviously I like his ideas on a flat tax. I think he genuinely wants to get the thing done. So it seems to be a good combination," Mr. Forbes said in an interview with the Daily Beast Thursday.

So you think political experience is the only kind that matters? Cain’s experience is in the real world—he understands business and the many ways the government can be the problem. That is superior to political experience any day. Look at the mess the politicians got us in. You want more of that? Or you want to trust a man [Gingrich] who’s all over the place, backing man-made global warming [news flash, you do NOT know that Cain would cavort w Pelosi on this subject, and it’s the height of arrogance to suggest you do. Who are you, God, that you know what’s in other people’s minds? Cain says man-made global warming is “popycock”. So why, according to you, would he suddenly jettison his own views and embrace a leftist meme just for the chance to sit near the queen of the moonbats, Pelosi???]
As for Scozzafava, she was Gingrich’s choice period. No excuses. She backed the Dem after she dropped out because the Dem was the only one who (as opposed to the tea party candidate) who according to her, would go far enough in backing ‘a woman’s right to choose’. So there is Gingrich for you: pushing a radical abortionist. Live w it.
PS: Help me out on the timeline. Gringrich has had so many adulterous affairs, I lose track of them all. Was his first affair anywhere in the vicinity of his leaving congress?
PPS: The only thing chaotic about the Scozzafava election was the degree to which the GOP went to push their Establishment darling and defeat the tea party conservative. That is why Gingrich’s siding w the Ruling Class against the tea party/conservatism is so odious and disgusting. The GOP pulled out all the stops to elect their party hack, and they at least succeeded in electing a like-minded Dem. Scozzafava endorsed the Dem after taking GOP $. Please furnish a quote where Gingrich called that ‘fraud’, and demanded that Scozzafava return the party’s cash.
I’ve got my problems with Perry, believe me.
But posting horse manure from the Rolling Stone makes me like Perry more, not less.
I like Cain, but I have to agree with your post #79.
I hardly find instance after documented instance of Perry selling his “vote” for contributions horse manure; nor the story of instance after instance of him supporting big and bigger government while wasting taxpayer funds. But the beauty of this country is you can.
With his past history and the financial problems of the Forbes family, I believe you have to wonder what’s in it for Steve Forbes to come out and support Perry. At least I do.
Also, there’s very little in the article that Texas don’t already know. Regardless of where it is published, you will not hear Perry denying any of it.
livius, I regret it if my previous replies seem (or in fact are) a bit on the terse side. It’s hard online to remember, sometimes, that the same point can be made kindly or brusquely. You and I have a fundamental disagreement, and that’s okay. On the conservative side, there are many similar disagreements, but the hope is they will all be forgotten once a good nominee is in place. I for one don’t think Romney will get it—the memory of McCain is still (thankfully) too vivid. I hope Gingrich doesn’t get it because he is too uneven. For every conservative thing he says, there is a Dede Scozzafava or Pelosi/couch/global warming issue on the other side. However, if he does get the nomination, I will be behind him a hundred percent. Another four years of Obama is a disaster beyond contemplation. At least you and I can agree on the urgency of defeating him in Nov. ‘12.
If it’s all so well known, why do you have to post it from the Rolling Stone?
It’s like posting an article from Pravda about how evil capitalism is and when called on it saying “it’s all well-known stuff”.
Well, then why use Pravda as your source if it’s all so “well known”?
No, I agree entirely. Don’t worry about it -Internet communications can be difficult because you never see the smile, the raised glass, or the wink. But I never felt you (orI, I hope) were hostile.
Frankly, I don’t think Gingrich has a chance, so this is not a real concern. If the Dems didn’t shoot him down, the GOP will.
In any case, nobody I have ever liked has never made it to the nomination...I’m wondering if my approval is the kiss of death. The only thing I hope is that the GOP doesn’t “annoint” Romney.
I could really vote for anybody except Romney. I think Cain has serious drawbacks, but unless he’s running with Romney, I’d vote for him. Anybody who runs with Romney...forget it. We voted for VP once and it didn’t work.
Well said, every line of it. Ditto for never seeing one’s favorite candidate ultimately win. Since Cain is my favorite...well, maybe he will defy the odds.
It’s been an interesting primary season so far. I simply cannot believe Romney will win out in the end. We [or more properly, the GOP honchos] tried that w McCain, and it blew up in our faces. The rebellious spirit that brought the tea party into being is not going to cooperate w the Ruling Class’s desire to push another Establishment RINO off onto us. We’ll get a conservative this time, I really believe, and barring a strong third party, we’ll boot Obama out on his ear.
I’ll go real slow here: if it is printed somewhere, that is where you have to post it from. If that’s too fast for you get back to me.
OK. I think you are an ass. That is a well informed opinion..
Actually, it’s an indisputable fact.
And I’ll slow it down for you, too:
If it’s “everywhere”, if it’s “out there”, if “we all know about it”... as you claim...
Then why do YOU choose THAT source?
And let me say quickly here: I’m not expecting an actual answer from you... so take your time.
Because all of the evidence is succinctly presented in one article. Is that clear enough for you, Mr. Perry?
That’s what they say at the New York Times. All the news that’s fit to print. All in one convenient place.
Don’t forget to renew your subscription.
Let’s make this as easy as possible for you. Have you read the article? What specifically do you disagree with? Two simple questions. I’ll be looking forward to your answers.
I’ll make it even simpler. Rolling Stone articles need:
a) to be posted with a Barf Alert
b) to be posted on Democratic Underground
I’ve moved on to other, more interesting discussions on FR.
I’m no longer concerned about what you post, what you read, what you push, or who you pander to.
I’m not an admin on FR so as far as I’m concerned, this is none of my business.
Have a nice day. Maybe I’ll see you on one of the other more productive threads in FR.
So you’re complaining about an article you haven’t read and have no stated disagreement with. Classic.
You said I didn’t read it. I said I don’t want to discuss bilge-water from leftist sources.
If you can’t read posts, you can’t be trusted to understand articles.
