Red State and Free Republic Declare War on Mitt Romney Supporters for Some Reason [JR post 132]
Myth Romney Central ^

Posted on 10/29/2011 8:05:02 AM PDT by mnehring

Edited on 10/29/2011 2:08:48 PM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

The editors at Red State and Free Republic (among others) have had the wool pulled over their eyes. They seem to actually believe the lies originally propagated by supporters of President Obama and, in some cases, even by President Obama himself. Now, for some reason, these editors/moderators are so insecure in their prejudice against Gov. Romney that they ban people who openly support Gov. Romney. Free Republic (mostly because of it’s owner Jim Robinson) has purged all of the Romney supporters they could from the site in two waves of purges over the last few years. The anti-Romney and anti-Mormon bigotry evident at Free Republic now is absolutely sickening.

I haven’t been to Free Republic quite as much as I used to partly because I have been banned from posting. During the 2008 election, Mitt was accepted and lauded by many at Free Republic like he was by most conservatives. One of the best summaries of Gov. Romney’s accomplishments was actually from Free Republic. However, Jim Robinson seemingly fell in love with Sarah Palin and initiated purges of anyone who wouldn’t pledge allegiance to her. A few months back, I tried to make a new account and see if I could post about Gov. Romney’s jobs plan and I was promptly banned and called a few derogatory names implying that I was a Mormon. Besides the fact that I am not Mormon, I can’t for the life of me figure out how a site like that, filled with such hate, can find enough donors to keep it going. When I think of Free Republic, I’m reminded of the scene from Star Wars Episode IV where Luke is warned that he is entering “A Wretched Hive of Scum and Villany”.

Red State has been fairly hostile to Gov. Romney for awhile, but they have crossed into new lows now as well. The guys from WhyRomney.com [3] have been working very hard and diligently to refute some of the many misconceptions about Gov. Romney, and I hope this unfortunate episode won’t dissuade them or anyone else from trying to correct the people endlessly smearing Gov. Romney. What so many of these people who don’t like Gov. Romney don’t seem to realize is that they have been fed reasons to not like Gov. Romney by highly-funded democratic think tanks. It’s abundantly clear now, no matter what Rush Limbaugh says [4], that President Obama is scared to death of facing Mitt Romney [5] in the general election.

If you want to check out the three open letters posted to Red State, you can read the one on mandates and health care here [6], the one about abortion here [7], and the final one on miscellaneous issues here [8] unless Red State removes the posts now that they have cowardly banned the authors of the letters. Also, I’ve saved a screen shot of the admin belittling the efforts of our friends from WhyRomney [9] and giving his/her bogus reason for banning them which you can read here [10] just in case the admin tries to cover his/her tracks in shame. If you want to see how rude Free Republic is without actually subjecting yourself to the hate, just click here [11] for a screen shot of the reason they banned the author of a similar open letter.

I know there are bastions of bigotry against Mormons on other sites besides Free Republic and that Free Republic and Red State aren’t the only sites that have ever banned people they disagreed with, but I’ve concluded that they are the grandparents of this anti-Romney crusade that fortunately seems destined to fail. Some other sites seem predisposed against supporting Mitt, but not at the dangerous level of these two.

The motives of people like Mark Levin and Rush Limbaugh [12] to not want Gov. Mitt Romney to be the GOP nominee are easy to understand (hint: they make more money with President Obama in the White House), but I believe many other sites and conservatives are simply following their lead reinforced by the disingenuous people at Red State and the sheltered leader of Free Republic. Most other conservative sites that support candidates other than Mitt at least vow to support Mitt if he is the nominee, but I worry about what is festering at Free Republic and now, Red State. Once our nominee is selected, we will need all hands on deck to defeat President Obama. The members of these two sites should realize how detrimental the actions of their leaders may end up being to the ultimate cause of making President Obama a one-term President. I hope they will ask for their leaders to act in a more responsible fashion.

WELCOME TO FREE REPUBLIC!

What happens to employees who don’t have health insurance?

As of July 1, 2007:

* With few exceptions, Massachusetts residents age 18 and older must carry health insurance that meets the minimum standards set by the Health Connector. This is known as the “Individual Mandate.”
* Adults who cannot afford a plan that meets Health Connector standards can apply to the Health Connector for a waiver.
* Those who do not get insurance or a waiver by December 31, 2007 will lose their state personal income tax exemption when filing their 2007 state personal income taxes.
* If their religion does not allow them to carry health insurance, they can file a statement with their state tax return.
* In 2008, the penalties on adults who do not carry health insurance will grow significantly. Uninsured adults will be fined 1/2 of the monthly premium cost of the most affordable health plan available to them, as certified by the Health Connector.

How is the Individual Mandate enforced?

By the Massachusetts Department of Revenue, through the process of collecting state income taxes.

I wasn’t as accurate as I should have been.

The vast, vast majority of folks here do not “hate” Romney just because he’s Mormon. Whatever you are seeing as “hate” is strong disagreement, not hate.

You are trying to use the word “hate” to imply the people not backing Mitt are basing that in the irrational. There are plenty of rational and logical reasons why conservatives strongly disagree with Mitt and they have nothing to do with him being a Mormon.

You just cannot simply broad-brush FR as the only or even main reason people aren’t for him is because he’s Mormon. It isn’t true. Most discussions I read about Mitt people are talking about his policies, what he’s done as a politician, and how that affects their view of him. There are religious-based threads about Mitt’s religion but they are categorized as such, so there’s no surprise there people are going to either be posting one way or the other about that.

I think you expressed my feelings/opinions very closely.

I still don’t see many of the “ anti Romney” people making at least a primary committment to another candidate on Freeper. After Palin said she wouldn’t run, a lot of the anti romney people just don’t have anyone else. Now, THAT is very strange.

I keep hearing about “I want a real conservative!” but then there is no one in their tag line or comments that state who that might be.

And I think there are enough conservatives who will “just work for local and state candidates and leave the Pres election totally alone.” That group is then the defacto Third party.

Romney jurist picks not tilted to GOP
Independents, Democrats get call

Governor Mitt Romney, who touts his conservative credentials to out-of-state Republicans, has passed over GOP lawyers for three-quarters of the 36 judicial vacancies he has faced, instead tapping registered Democrats or independents — including two gay lawyers who have supported expanded same-sex rights, a Globe review of the nominations has found.

Of the 36 people Romney named to be judges or clerk magistrates, 23 are either registered Democrats or unenrolled voters who have made multiple contributions to Democratic politicians or who voted in Democratic primaries, state and local records show. In all, he has nominated nine registered Republicans, 13 unenrolled voters, and 14 registered Democrats.

With increased attention on judicial nominees after President Bush’s nomination of John G. Roberts Jr. to the US Supreme Court, Romney said Friday that he has not paid a moment’s notice to his nominees’ political leanings or sexual orientation — or to the impact his choices might have on a future presidential run. He said he has focused on two factors: their legal experience and whether the nominees would be tough on crime. He said most of the nominees have prosecutorial experience.

‘’People on both sides of the aisle want to put the bad guys away,” Romney said.

Romney, who is considering a run for the Republican nomination for president in 2008, has cast himself to GOP audiences as a lonely Republican voice in an overwhelmingly Democratic state. But his judicial appointments led one out-of-state activist to suggest the choices might hurt Romney among Republican voters. Observers in the Bay State legal community, meanwhile, said they see a contradiction between Romney’s judicial choices and his conservative rhetoric, including his stated opposition to same-sex marriage.

‘’I’ve long since given up trying to figure out what makes Mitt Romney tick,” said Joyce Kauffman, former cochairwoman of the Massachusetts Lesbian and Gay Bar Association.

The governor said that, so far, he has had few chances to appoint judges to the highest state courts, where his criteria would change to include ‘’strict construction, judicial philosophy.”

‘’With regards to those at the district court and clerk magistrate level, their political views aren’t really going to come into play unless their views indicate they will be soft on crime, because in that case, apply elsewhere,” Romney said.

The Globe’s review found that several of his choices for the bench in Massachusetts have strong ties to the state’s dominant Democratic Party. He tapped a former Democratic Suffolk County sheriff, the sister of Boston’s City Council president, a top official under Democratic Secretary of State William F. Galvin who once ran for the House seat of Republican leader Bradley H. Jones Jr., and a former intern for Democratic US Representative Joseph P. Kennedy who switched his party affiliation to the GOP two weeks before his nomination.Continued...

No doubt. You wouldn’t walk straight into your friend’s house, slap his girl on the butt, go the fridge and take a nice long pull from the bottle of wine there, and then start rooting around in his pantry for a snack. That’s pretty much what you’re doing here, Saundra.

Well said.

The MittBots from '08 are having a hissy fit now because they aren't going to be allowed to run rampant on FR the way they did then.

They are whining because Romney is getting the treatment today that they dished out to Fred Thompson in attempting to destroy him and his wife and are finding out that "payback is a bitch".

They and many of their FReeper friends have been secretly marshalled to covertly support Romney by playing the mormon victim card and trying to shame Christians with their "hate" rhetoric, and "mormons are just the NICEST people" mantra.

The media is already taking up the mormon theme in anticipation of destroying Mitt after he is nominated.

People who don't see this are blind.

Mitt Romney told Chris Wallace that when one takes over failing companies, one sometimes must get rid of dead wood and Romney further said that’s what he wants to do with the Federal Gov’t - get rid of a bunch of dead wood.

These stupid attacks on Mitt Romney, the best GOP candidate to kick Hillary’s rearend, are so ridiculous!

You know, your slam against a sacred practice of the LDS Church shows you in a very disgusting light.

Your tagline used to say "Romney Rocks"

Please understand, this has nothing to do with his religion.

He is a HYPOCRITE and LIAR

That's pretty much a sin in every religion, except Islam and Satanism.

This idiot child wouldn’t have gotten any oxygen but for your post. He has all of 6-10 comments, most of which are from the zotted. What a colossal crybaby who’s dead bang wrong about the reasons we are dead set against Romney, and his religion isn’t one of our reasons. At least it’s not one of mine.

How is the Individual Mandate enforced? By the Massachusetts Department of Revenue, through the process of collecting state income taxes.

It is worse than that. The state has gone so far as to hire a law firm to sue individual citizens to collect "fines" for failing to purchase health insurance. And paying the fine does not absolve a person of the purchase requirement for the year for which they are being fined. So if financial problems are the reason you failed to buy, you now find yourself in further financial distress.

So when Mitt casually dismisses Romneycare with "it was right for Massachusetts" or some blather I become incensed. The rates are rising dramatically because the "poor" are getting the state to pay for their coverage, which raises our costs. It was just revealed this week that Massachusetts spent $93,000,000 on health care for illegals, too.

The fact that Mitt Romney could not or would not see the disastrous consquences and pitfalls of Romneycare is one of the main reasons conservatives rightly distrust him.

Yeah, I always say what did those poor residents of MA do to deserve the individual mandate, and then remember they put Jon Kerry, Ted Kennedy and Barney frank in DC and my sympathies sort of grow cold (sarcasm).

Looks like MYTH won't be getting a huge military vote either.

Lets see, no evangelical support, no catholic support, no black support, no hispanic support, no military support, and lukewarm white male support at best.

MYTH had better hope a lot of women, communists, and homosexuals come out, but looks like the communists and homosexuals will be voting for Obama again.

Guess that leaves women.
