“Stop drinking the Kool-Aid.”

Sir, I’ve been living these wars for almost half of my adult life. Not a day goes by that it isn’t in the front of my mind. My husband lives war, breathes war, thinks war. My children were raised with war. Our house is filled with books on war. Not a day goes by without talking about war.

I am not drinking Kool-Aid. Believe it or not, I have had the opportunity to actually THINK and consult with many people who’re IN WAR ZONES just a little bit before forming my opinions.

One of my husband’s co-workers (he’s also a senior NCO) just lost his 18 year old son to this war.

HE knows why were there. He knows why his family has sacrificed so much.

It’s too bad that so many of our countrymen don’t.

Do your family a favor and tell your husband not to waste his time.

The biggest threats to this country are right here inside our borders.

Horrible...
News you won’t be seeing on MSNBC, I’m afraid. It might make Obama look bad.

What a senseless, heartless response, Doofer. Marie had clearly spelled out that her husband is there in Kabul and that they’ve been through 3 long deployments. Why don’t you just cut her and be done with it?

We can all have our own pet reasons why we should or shouldn’t be there, but Marie and her family and friends are actually bleeding over this war, and more than that, they need to make sense out of the absence of and threat to and death of, family, friends, and unit members.

We can at least have the good sense to know that Marie is right. Our troops’ lives and separations have not been wasted on a pointless exercise. It WOULD be better if Afghanistan had stability.

Unfortunately, Marie, our president is going to force the withdrawal of our troops before they are able to finish that mission. That is a betrayal of blood, but it is what this commander in chief is ordering.

Thank you for your service and that of your husband and family.

There is a thin line between the home front and the front line.

So, according to you two, it was all for nothing. All the sacrifice. All the time lost. The years that my children didn’t have their father. The PTSD. The lives and limbs lost. Our friends blown up. My children’s classmates dead and wounded for life.

It was all one big pointless waste of time.

Thank you America.

Thank YOU for turning this into another Vietnam.

We are indeed blessed by you and your family’s dedication to the defense of our Nation and its citizens.

I admire your civil response to that offensive comment.

Courage is not fearlessness - but overcoming fear.

Again, thank you for your courage.

Marie,

I’m sorry for the responses you received. Know that we appreciate everything your husband does for our country....and the sacrifices that you and your family also have to make as a result.

Stop drinking the Kool-Aid.

Like her husband does, right? I think you owe Marie an apology.

What pisses me off is that, after 9-11, our nation SCREAMED for our government to ‘do something’. Everybody wanted war.

So our gov’t comes up with a plan of attack to take the fight to them. Our service members step up without complaint and head into the meat grinders for THEM. We gave up everything for this nation.

Now it was a waste of time?!

What the hell do these people want?

No. This is one attitude that I won’t let stand. This was NOT all for nothing.

My wife is deploying soon and yes, the stories of first hand experiences is that the mission has been a failure even before Obama took the Oath. If you are so keen on war you would know how much of a cluster F* Afghan is. COIN will not work there; our solders are/will dying in vain for a pipe dream and there is not enough soilders for COIN to be effective. Our leaders have forgotten Clausewitz and would rather emulate Don Quiote off the blood of others.

You don't fight corruption by subsidizing the thieves. You simply kill them and break a lot of things while establishing your own will, not appeasing a bunch of barbarians who have no desire to assimilate.

Also we have the means to kill terrorist “over there” and putting pressure on countries (Pakistan etc.) to quit playing games with the USA. Problem is a lot of people are making money off the blood of US soldiers.

By the way, do you know our nation's debt? Do you understand that you try to avoid conflicts that drain your resources? Warfare 101 and the powers that be have already failed that class and you want to continue? Like I said, we can easily kill terrorist over there without selling our grand children's resources $$$ down the drain. Problem is the bureaucracy is doing this the impossible way. Either supplant our will on those rag-heads or get the F* out.

Thank you for your husband’s and your family’s service to our country. We are forever indebted to you for the sacrifices you make every day. Some of the comments directed at you on this thread really disgust and sadden me. Hopefully they are not from authentic Freepers.

Marie, I agree with txmissy 100%!! I live just a few miles from Camp Lejeune and we love and support our Marines whatever their mission! It will be a tragedy if, as the US is about to do in Iraq, leave the country too soon before the mission can successfully be completed.

Rather than wage war with terrorists here, we’re doing it over there.

Exactly! And that is something many do not fully understand or appreciate.

There is a sound reason that in the name of national security the U.S. has assets and personnel deployed around the world. Of course, that really jams up our domestic anti-U.S. folks.

Prayers and best wishes for you and your husband and your family. We owe you a substantial debt.

IMO if the US and NATO were to abandon Afghanistan as we are about to do in Iraq, the country will become a training ground and center for terrorism worse than we have ever seen or can imagine. And their targets won't be in the ME, Russia or Asia. They will be targets in the US and Europe. That one area has the potential of making the Western world a fiery hell. I think it must be contained by constant and aggressive pressure. The insurgents need to be rooted out by an overwhelming force and those short-sighted European leaders need to be a significant part for failure in Afghanistan will the an Islamic Europe and all that means.

pointless waste of time

Marie, if I had been in charge, I would have turned the attention of the entire nation to those wars. We would have gone in with every division, brigade, wing, flight, group that we had, and we would have overwhelmed that nation.

Our leaders have not had the guts to fight this war, and they have squandered the honor of troops like your husband. It IS a price we'll pay in grief and sense of betrayal for decades.

Pray for the remainder of our troops that they never again are taken to war by gutless leaders unwilling to declare war and fight a full out war against enemies.

If we had a million troops in Afghan right now instead of 100,000, how long do you think before that place would be stable? I'd say a matter of less than one year.

Your honor and that of your family can never be taken away.

Thank you for reminding everyone why we went to Aftganiscrap.

Unfortunately for you and your husband (best wishes), and all the other troops, those barbarians will never want true freedom. Their culture and religious beliefs dictate otherwise. I have no answer or solutions other than bring our guys and gals home and if the Taliban/al-queda/Muslim Brotherhood, et al, regroups and hits the Western world again in mass... wipe that rat hole off the planet with every thing we have. Yes, and I mean their women and children, too. Better theirs than ours. That's how we won against the Nazis, facist Italy, and savage Japan. I see little difference between them and the Taliban/Islamists.

I stand by your husband and you, but I think it's a fruitless effort with our current "rules of engagement". Nation building is the last thing Aftganis want. They have their nation - it's called Islam. Yes, I realize the exceptions, but with the "Arab Spring" showing signs of Sharia takeover, I just don't care any longer. Carpet bomb them into the 6th century that they so relish, if the time comes. I want your husband home with his wife.

God bless you and your husband. I just wish more Americans, our CIC in particular had the clarity you have. My concern is that our leaders and large numbers of our citizens are anxious to retreat, many actually support the Taliban. If what happened with Vietnam is about to happen in Afghanistan, I’d want our troops out rather than waste their lives.

The Taliban mind set is taking over the “Arab spring” and poses a critical danger to the entire world. We cannot curl up behind our borders and take a Ron Paul approach. One glance at our economy and its supply chains serves to show just how dependent our very survival is on international trade. The 7th century mind set of islamists would bring much of that down. Just how much trade are we doing with Iran, for instance.

Again, God bless.
