Federal firearms officials are hoping a $10,000 reward will help them find the person who stole 70 handguns and a rifle from a retired St. Louis police officer's home.

The same home was burglarized of about 8,000 rounds of ammunition a month ago.

He said most of the ammunition was for assault rifles, not for the guns stolen.

Good salary and been collecting guns for years.

I wonder where he bought them?

What I’m wondering is why the media isn’t going ballistic over the man owning 71 weapons, some clearly being “assault rifles” (any semi-automatic rifle - NOT!) and 8k rounds of ammo for “assault weapons”......normally even owning this many would be blasted, or 1/4th as many!

Guess it’s cause he’s a former LEO that it’s ok, but former military isn’t ok......or non-vet either.....

Probably just stolen in the same way mine were lost in a boating accident. Along with all the ammo.

Should have had a security system installed as well as a good floor safe.

Just a little speculation here, but Maryland Heights is a pretty nice town, with a just a couple apartment areas that have St. Louis city transplants hiding out in. I am suspecting an angry family member perhaps. It takes a minute to move 8K rounds of ammo and then 71 guns. So, if an alarm was in place, it was disabled. Those guns are scattered to hell and gone but some are probably in the Baden, Walnut Park, Jeff Vanderlou, Fairgrounds Park and Benton Park neighborhoods.

Anyway, don’t talk guns with anyone you wouldn’t want in your foxhole.

In a comment to the story that was mentioned.

Surprising for a Blue City like St Louis the comments were mixed.

A retired police officer has 8K rounds stolen last month, but took no precautions to secure his 71-gun collection??

Or did the thieves show up with a front loader and dump truck to haul out his gun safes??
