Herman Cain's rise in the polls appears to be no fluke. Unlike some other Republican presidential contenders who have flamed out fast after auditioning as the conservative antidote to Mitt Romney, Cain is still riding high atop public opinion surveys. "They said I was the flavor of the week," the Georgia businessman said at an appearance Friday on a campaign swing through Alabama. "But four weeks later the Cain campaign still tastes good!" Cain lacks the money and organization of his top-tier GOP competitors. But, so far, he's survived several high-profile campaign blunders and an onslaught of attacks on his signature 9-9-9 tax overhaul plan. And despite the sudden rise to the top tier of the GOP, Cain is still doing things his own way.

Charisma. Likability. Warmth.
Maybe it shouldn’t be a factor for who’s going to be president, but who would you rather share a beer with? Who do you imagine you would feel more comfortable with? Who do you think would at least listen and understand your concerns better?
These _are_ factors, and areas where he would clean Obama’s clock but good.
I think, if Perry can overcome his current difficulties to become the nominee, he will be a very good president, imo. He may not be Reagan, but he will be good.
Having daid that, I think his obvious lack of preparation for the role has been a disappointment to me. I would even say, since I have a very high opinion of the kind of person I want in the White House, I’m a bit angry over this act of carelessness.
I don’t expect perfection and I know the candidate will never measure up to what I’d like to see, but, if he thought that he might be willing to be president, why didn’t he spend the last year prepping.
All he had to do, to understand the country, is get his assistant to clip out relevant articles from all over the country and read them. If he wasn’t able to have his assistant do that, somebody in the Republican establishment would have happily paid for somebody on Perry’s behalf to do that for him.
And he would have been better prepared.
I like him, and if nothing else I hope he brings hats back in fashion. Seriously, he is a smart and earnest man - I hope he is a building a strong, loyal, conservative team around him.
Bachmann is a politician. Cain is not. I believe that is the biggest reason Cain is doing this.
Real conservatives and people who believe in the Constitution are sick and tired of politicians and do not trust Bachmann because of this. They do not trust her or any other politician to get down and dirty to do the right thing when the time comes to stand their ground. No compromises.
The "house" needs to be swept clean and Cain is just the person to do the job.
As I’ve said before, if that comes to pass, it will be a very tightly constrained format with little actual “debate”. There will only be one.
If it comes down to that, Cain would earn a great deal of cred if he publicly called on Obama to have a real debate, without so many of the silly, schoolkid crap, like Romney whining that Perry wouldn’t let him talk, or Bachmann saying the moderator’s name over and over.
As someone else pointed out on this thread Perry shares the same problem as most of the other candidates Perry, Mitt, Newt, Bachmann have all spent most of their careers running for office and all can be classified as career politicians and people are sick and tried of career politicians, no matter how conservative they may appear they just DO NOT FULLY TRUST any of them and why should they?
I gave his campaign $100 yesterday. If he keeps it up, there’s a lot more where that came from. I attended his rallies here in TN at Roane State Community College in Harriman. He gaved a terrific, inspiring Reganesque spech that lasted about 35 minutes without a teleprompter and without any notes. GO HERMINATOR!!!
One of the first things a politician will due when he doesn’t have a counterpoint is resort to ridicule. It’s a sure sign that he doesn’t know how to argue against your point, otherwise why wouldn’t he make a counter point.
It’s the same thing here. When somebody blows up at me and calls me every name in the book, I know I said something they couldn’t counterpoint.
The Illegal is now and has always been a minimally articulate anti-American bigot of distinctly limited intelligence and education, who really doesn’t want to get any more education. If that weren’t so, he’d have happily released ther academic and other records he’s done so much to conceal.
Cain will have to flip a northern state or three to win. I don’t know if that’s going to happen honestly.
I expect Romney to win the states with open primaries since the liberals will vote for him in those states - NH included.

And I make it a big point before I turn to leave the encounter, usually in the form of a question they cannot answer because it demands self retrospect and thought.
But the will remember the encounter every time they see me again. Therein lies hope that thought and not reactive emotions will somehow get through. Whether it does or not, they know not to start the silliness again.

Now he’s the flavor of the month. If he’s still high in the polls and takes Iowa some in the media might begin to take him seriously. If he comes to within 10 pts of Mitt in New Hampshire, more eyes will be opened.
When he wins South Carolina, the whole G.O.P./FoxNews establishment will be running to jump aboard the Cain Train screaming that they “have had tickets all along, really they have.”
When he wins Florida and Nevada then the full brunt of the state run media will be brought to bear upon this little engine that could, because if they do not derail it, it will run right over their sovereign in about a year.
The "turn the 9.9.9 upsidedown" quote didn't do her any good. It made her look like a flake.
I agree that is one of the main problems. I don’t mind career politicians, if they have a record of conservatism to stand on.
I think I’m one of the more realistic conservatives out there, because I know backroom deals have to be made to get stuff done and nobody is going to have a perfect record. But if their record is clear that they didn’t turn their back, generally speaking, on their conservative principles, I would probably support them.
