Marines Storm Reddit After Occupy Oakland Shooting of Scott Olsen (all 10 or so??)
Media Bistro ^ | October 27, 2011 | Matthew Fleischer

Marines have been flocking to the social networking/aggregator site Reddit to voice their anger at the life-threatening injury inflicted on 24-year-old Iraqi war veteran Scott Olsen by Oakland police during the recent Occupy protests. Video showed Olsen go down after taking a tear gas canister to the head. As fellow protesters tried to assist him, police lobbed a flash grenade into their midst–right next to Olsen’s already fractured skull.

The picture above, submitted by Reddit user aburger, has generated well over 1,000 comments on the site–many from fellow Marines who are absolutely livid at the injury to one of their own by police.

Here’s one from Reddit user 0311kilo33:

As God is my witness. I will fight tooth and nail to restore the decency this country was founded upon. The politicians, banks and large corporations have ruined this country. I find it difficult to notice any sense of politeness on the streets anymore. But it goes farther. As a Marine and a citizen I am outraged. I am sick to death of the world my children are being raised in.

So I ask all of you, can you too sense the tipping point? When will enough be enough? If not now, when? I feel the problem is that the average Joe citizen is ignorant and comfortable. These, in addition to selfishness have become the standard for the majority of the population. As long as people are comfortable they remain silent. Well, I’m really fucking uncomfortable and I’m sick of seeing this sort of shit happening. The Occupy protests that are going on are our first glimmer of hope. If we can take this and move it further, get every lazy ass off their rocker and open their eyes; then maybe, just maybe we have a chance.

Semper Fi brothers, and remember who you are. Protectors of a great nation, not politicians or wealthy money grubbing bankers and the like. When it comes time, I know we’ll stand strong.

If online reaction is any indication, it’s not a stretch to think Olsen’s injury could be the start of something very big. We have a lot of military combat veterans in this country who haven’t been treated very well since they left the service. No job prospects. Inadequate medical coverage. If they take their anger offline and into the streets, the OWS movement will become an extremely potent, and WELL TRAINED force.

It should be blown up. The storm troopers stood behind barricades, firing at will, into the crowd, with blatant intent to do severe harm.

Marine veteran or not, served honorable or not, it doesn't matter. What matters is the behavior of the goons in uniform. And when they come for the rest of us, there will be many, like some I see on this thread, who will have no right to say dip. Because they have supported, and condoned, these goons.

First they came for the communists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me.

Reference: “...and if the coffee maker breaks down, you won’t hear them bitching about it for the rest of the day.”

Well no, but that’s because THIS Marine will have persisted at Operation Juan Valdez until it is “mission accomplished,” LOL. It’s not that I can’t work without my Go Juice, but you’ll find me much easier to put up with!

As to the article, I’m none too pleased with a Marine involving himself in OWS. But even the Corps has its bad apples. I knew one who only lasted as long as he did because the NCOs in charge loved his brown-nosing. His deeds caught up with him, tho, and he quietly disappeared.

Many of the comments on the video linked imply that he wasn’t even hit with a canister and that he hit his head on the ground. Is there actual video of this guy getting hit with the canister?

That Mohammedan facial hair does not inspire my confidence in his complaint.

Thank you for your service...

Heha...”Operation Juan Valdez” that gave me a grin!

Seriously, I can imagine there might be some Marines out there who might feel sympathy if the guy had been in combat and snapped, turning into what he is because he couldn’t take it. I once read in the South Pacific if a guy looked like he was cracking, everyone just got kind of embarrassed and turned away or tried to change the subject, the feeling being that today it is him, tomorrow it could be me...

But I can’t imagine Marines supporting this pussy just because he was in the Marines, with all the other stuff.

I just can’t imagine it. But you would probably have a better idea about that mindset than I do.

People are people. I can’t answer for other Marines.

It’s possible that the young Marines involving themselves on this fellow’s behalf haven’t thought to question the first story they got. Looks like the source of the story played them on purpose, and these guys bit. (Going by healines here on FR, the cops were provoked by the protesters flinging things at them. That was’t revealed in the initial versions, of course.)

It’s at the point where anyone using a handle that alludes to military service in any way is suspect (pre-2008 Freepers notwithstanding).

Yeah. I'm thinking of changing my screen name to "Green-Eyed Hurtgen Deep in the Blonde Forest," just in case...

Note also the black guy who is all the rage (Marine too?) has that type of beard. I only seem to see them in Amish, Muslim terrorists, and weird leftists.
