Two of his Republican rivals on Thursday criticized Rick Perry, who has dropped hints he may skip some of the upcoming presidential debates.
In a question-and answer-session with reporters following an education forum in New York City, former Sen. Rick Santorum and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich both suggested it is a sign of weakness for Perry to take a pass on some future debates. At least 10 have been scheduled between now and the end of January.
"I'd never skip a debate. I'd never skip the opportunity to let the American public know what I think about these issues," Santorum said.
"I'm all about digging deeper and people getting to know the candidates."

LoL
I spend a lot of time working for my candidate, and defending Governor Perry. But you seem to spend more time on Perry threads than I do.
What would you call your fascination with posting in opposition of Perry? You spend much more time on the site than I and so much energy on negativity.
I’d rather be positive, but I will admit that the Rahm Emanuel “Empower me!” bailout graphics were fun.
Nevertheless, I decided not to make up Wizard of OZ pictures just yet.
Secondly, I post about Perry because I dislike the man. I dislike that a man with a pro-ILLEGAL alien record wants to take his dog and pony show national. I dislike that he offended me by saying I had no heart. I dislike a lot about Perry and will do all I can to ensure he does not get into my White House.
Have a nice night.
Perry has defended our ancestors and history, including the historic monuments to the Confederacy. He said he didn’t want a new use of the Confederate flag on license plates.
Another mistake from his professional handlers!
The Governor needs to fire ALL of them.
If he can’t hold his own with his rivals, how is he planning to convince voters that he win the debates against/with The Marxist?

He can't. It would be incredibly weak of him to not participate. I can't believe his handlers don't know that and wouldn't advise against it. Then again, he's done nothing but drop like a rock, due in part to his inability to defend his liberal position on ILLEGAL immigration during the debates. It's a tough position to be in for sure. But making tough decisions under pressure is what presidents do.
lol! Yes it is. The problem for you is no one’s going to read you long spam-filled post; they never do. Obviously they read mine. That you responded is proof. :-0
I think you and I are pretty much in agreement about Perry. Why are you so emotional about it? He’s never going to get my vote but who cares?
I’m not emotional; the emotion belongs to Perry’s supporters. I’m active, actively trying to prevent Rick Perry from getting the Republican nomination.
I knew he hurt himself immensely, the minute he uttered his poor choice of words; “you don’t have a heart,”...!
I know he would love to take back those words, but he can’t. Those words have stuck in the minds of conservatives because liberals have beaten us over our heads for decades with that very invective.
He came into the race unprepared for the zoom to the top and also unprepared as a national candidate. He’s only now releasing his tax and job growth plan, but it’s late and it’s basically Steve Forbes’ plan; and apparently Governor Perry couldn’t answer some questions about it.
“At this snapshot in time,” I don’t see how he recovers. He raised good money when he first entered. It will be interesting to see how much he’s raised since he’s dropped so drastically in the polls.
I don’t know if you saw it, but there is an article posted here -— about a poll -— that was not good for Perry: voters think he’s a major A$$—— ( or something similarly unflattering. Too many juvenile spats with Romney, which made him look mean.
Sheeesh. GO AFTER THE MARXIST, like Mr. Speaker and Herman Cain! Ignore THAT POS Romney, like Herman Cain and Mr. Speaker!
Mr. Sanctimonious needs to step aside.
Meanwhile, Perry needs to engage or bail. He ain’t too bright, in case you haven’t already noticed.
Have a great upcoming week-end.......GG
Offending voters is no way to get their vote and I really don't see Perry coming back from the gutter where his mouth has landed him. Shame, really. NOT!
I know that 'poll' was a joke but I really liked these lines...
The majority described Cain as the classmate who was the hard worker, with others saying he was the all-American kid or the kid everyone respects.
In contrast, Perry left this group cold. None of the descriptions are positive in any way. If you had to describe them in one word, it would be: a**hole. And not just you regular, every day, run-of-the-mill a**hole, but major a**hole.
Funny stuff!
Yes, I made one comment to a rather nasty poster, who never misses an opportunity to slam other candidates. That one was ruthless when the subject was Sarah Palin and now the poster is after Herman Cain.
Good night. It’s very late here. *sigh*
The debates need to be issue oriented, for example, each debate focus on a single topic and discuss it in depth.
No more 'gotcha questions' by the MSM
WRT debates-----he cant handle the questions, and the vetting of his Texas record shows him in a very bad ligh.
Very few politicans have displayed Perry's total ignorance----and his terrified "deer in the headlights" look as he stumbles through the debates.
This coward is copping out of future debates b/c he can't control his disdain and contempt for voters.
And if I ever find out he sucked up to Mexico by telling these foreigners he thought Americans were "heartless"....in my book, that would be grounds for treason.
It would have been far better if Perry had announced the strategy ahead of time.
I think I just heard that there’s something like 16 debates before the primaries actually begin. They are a joke so much that Dennis Miller is calling them “Survivor: vote someone off the island.” (Obama then steals that line.)
IOW, there are TOO many of the silly Q&A’s giving liberals a chance to keep the race in turmoil.
The correct thing for the election is to cut that number in half for ALL candidates.
In the meantime, Obama learned from the last election that the potus can’t sit idle and allow the candidates to continually potshot the president, so he has actively begun his campaign.
Too many debates will give him endless opportunity to ridicule conservatives.
I think Perry is right in this. These debates are becoming a distraction rather than an aid. I would think that Cain and Gingrich would also see the truth of this rejection of too many debates.
You can keep spinning that line of bs bucko. I read the quote.
