Long-time aide to Herman Cain leaving presidential campaign
The Daily Caller ^ | 10/27/2011 | Alex Pappas

GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain’s longest serving aide is leaving his surging campaign, even as the former Godfather’s Pizza CEO polls in the top tier of the Republican field, The Daily Caller has learned.

Executive assistant Karleen Smith has worked for Cain since he ran for the U.S. Senate in 2004. In an email to TheDC, she said her departure from the Cain campaign has long been in the works.

“My husband retired in July and I am 59,” Smith said. “My husband and I have been planning this retirement for awhile. We are ‘young seniors’ and ready to travel across the U.S.”

I just heard on fox news that Wisconsin GOP has Cain with a double-digit lead over second place Romney; Cain at 30%, I think Romney was in the teens, but I don’t know the exact number.

Cain’s cranking!

Also Cain leads Ohio.

Oh, how could they show up on this FR-Cain thread and suggest such a thing. Perish the thought. Nobody would be THAT STUPID to show up here and somehow connect a dot and say this (retirement) means the Herman Cain campaign is somehow in TROUBLE. Why they would be idiots to even suggest such a thing. Glad they won't show up.

I don’t think anyone is going to do that. Cain is not my guy but I hope she has a great retirement. She and her husband have been looking forward to this day, I wish her a very happy retirement.

Good for her! You used to could email or call Cain’s office and talk to Karleen (before things got crazy) - she is super nice :-)

Sounds like the intial plan is in disarray.

Smith and Cain had planned for Cain to have left the race already.

Oh, the whole Cain campaign is in disarray, according to BOR and Karl Rove. Only has SIX - count ‘em, 6 - staff people in NH and Iowa COMBINED! What an idiot he must be, why, BOR and even Miss Laura were dissing Mr. Cain’s lack of experience in such matters, and naturally the Master of the Whiteboard Karl Rove has Mr. Cain plummetting back to single digits now that “he’s peaked” and the “serious candidates” such as Romney and Perry can again assume their rightful positions.

Yes - there’s /sarc tag here ;-)

Mr. Cain seems to be doing quite nicely with his “unconventional campaign”, and I kinda like a candidate who spends what it takes to achieve the top position in the polls - and no more. Maybe he’ll spend OUR money as frugally as he spends his own!

Due to the pressures involved, I am surprised more people don’t leave. It has to be a certain kind of person to go through primarys and elections. When I read someone has left so and so’s campaign, I don’t usually blame the candidate for it....burn out has got to be high...

The parasitic intelligent idiots who are brilliant far beyond our mental capacity will read only the headline and form an opinion.

Right with you on that thought. By way of the success of his unconventional campaign, Cain is demonstrating the virtues of an innovated business person as compared to the professional political class.
