Rupert Murdoch must have imagined Steve Jobs would be a feisty dinner guest. Even still, the News Corp. chairman couldn't have foreseen that, in one night at the mogul's Carmel, California ranch, Jobs would call his tech people incompetent, get a guy fired, and say that Fox News was literally destroying the world.
Walter Isaacson's new biography of the Apple co-founder says Jobs railed against the conservative news channel and tried to convince Murdoch to shut it down. His comments came at the 2010 iteration of News Corp.'s annual management retreat. Isaacson writes:
In return for speaking at the retreat, Jobs got Murdoch to hear him out on Fox News, which he believed was destructive, harmful to the nation, and a blot on Murdoch's reputation. "You're blowing it with Fox News," Jobs told him over dinner. "The axis today is not liberal and conservative, the axis is conservative-destructive, and you've cast your lot with the destructive people. Fox has become a destructive force in our society. You can be better, and this is going to be your legacy if you're not careful." Jobs said he thought Murdoch did not really like how far Fox has gone. "Rupert's a builder, not a tearer-downer," he said...

You have to be kidding.
The asshole on the left achieved much better results from his efforts than did the asshole on the right. Jobs owns Gates in every way imaginable.
It’s talking about character not product.

Of course. But where’s your self-examination?
You are taking the huge leap of faith that you are a good arbiter/judge of these two lives.
Are you sure that your values are the right measure of men? You are applying your own values on these two individuals’ lives with absolutely no humility on your own part. What gives you that right?
Bill Gates is not the saint you make him out to be. Steve Jobs is not the sinner you want him to be. Give it a rest, wish them well and watch what you want to.
YOU COULD HAVE MADE YOUR POINT WITHOUT USING A WORD THAT OFFENDS WOMEN AND CHILDREN even though they too possess the offending orifice
Are you a woman or a child?
Look. All I did was post a character comparison that I saw. If you want to judge, then you judge. Okay? I was getting tired of all this “Saint Jobs” and just voiced an opinion. You know, an opinion. I didn’t know you’re not allowed to do that. You have yours, I have mine. Enough said.
Man up and stand by your post. Don't be a wuss...stand by your opinions. Explain it. Make your point. And be smart about it.
You posted a bitmap that someone else created and for some reason you think it's the proper reaction to "Jobs worship". You obviously feel that it represents your thoughts, perhaps expressed better than you could have come up with.
I don't think Jobs was a saint at all. In fact some other tight-ass on this thread already pointed out that I used language that he doesn't like.
A Tale of Two Companies
If you are like me you havent seen so much of a hoopla about someones passing since John Lennon.
And Jobs really was a lot of things to a lot of people. Family guy, an adopted child who wasnt aborted, and many other things. But I also see a lesson in out of control government.
Most of you remember seeing a picture of Bill Clinton and Gates playing golf one weekend.
Naturally you assumed that Gates was being shaken down by Clinton for DNC money. Well Gates played golf but he didnt play ball. Within weeks Renos justice department was filing an antitrust lawsuit against Microsoft.
One of the first things Bush did after he gave the military a pay raise was to stop this suit.
But as a result Microsoft fell behind a couple of years in innovation. This allowed Apple to take the lead, and their products still command a 50% or larger price premium as a result.
This has made Apple rich, but made mobile devices more costly to the masses.
Once again out of control government ends up costing everyone.
It was a joke son.
Forgot the /sarc tag
Hehe, sorry bout the eye-roll (and loaded for bear response).
Businessmen are not philosophers and thinkers that writers and artists are (sometimes, not always.) Nothing to emulate, except financial success, which is so often a matter of luck, and in those two cases most certainly. Neither Jobs nor Gates can guide your children to riches. Maybe the super salesman Larry Ellison can.
“Steve Jobs - Innovative technology genious”
Not even that. He was opportunistic and very, very good at identifying and exploiting the ingeniousness of others. He was very good at getting the very best out of the people around him, which is an extremely valuable and very, very rare talent. I also find that he was very good at setting “nearly” impossible goals, something which I believe he learned the value of at HP, when HP was HP (as opposed to the shell marketing company that it is now).
The WOZ was, and is, the genius. But he got out of the game early.
No sale on that lame excuse.
A person has to be rude and selfish to demand that government confiscate more money from neighbors, friends, and complete strangers. Jobs and his ilk are rude and selfish. Case closed.
Not at all. I have no problem with measured greed, and I'm not sure if "evil" is the right word.
I still like my adjectives - - "rude and selfish".
“Maybe the super salesman Larry Ellison can.”
I just don’t “get” him. Nonetheless, he must be doing something right, given that he is beloved by no one.
Oracle makes a damn good product IMO, far and away the best in its field; I based this part of my career on it - but unfortunately, they know it, and price it accordingly.
Yeah, liberals hate the fact they lost their monopoly on TV news and no longer could tilt the views of people.
Fox did nothing but have one or two more real conservatives on the opinion shows and then just report the news straight.
How dare them?
