Senators from maple syrup-producing states are seeking a law to make selling the fake stuff a punishable offense.
Sens. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., and Susan Collins, R-Maine, proposed legislation Thursday to make selling fraudulent maple syrup a felony. The bill, co-sponsored by Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., is called the Maple Agriculture Protection and Law Enforcement (MAPLE) Act.
Leahy stated in a press release that he is alarmed at the increasing number of people and businesses claiming to sell Vermont maple syrup but actually selling something "that is not maple syrup at all."
"This is fraud, plain and simple, and it undermines a key part of Vermont's economy," Leahy stated in the release.
Collins, whose state is the third biggest producer of pure maple syrup in the country, stated that fake labeling hurts the agricultural industry and defrauds customers "who have the right to know exactly what they are purchasing."

Since there are probably more states that produce fake maple syrup than the real stuff, someone should introduce a bill to make producing real maple syrup a felony.
If we lock them up for that, we get the added bonus of no more Democrats elected to any office.
They can fake a label, but they can’t fake the taste.
“Such a sticky topic. I hope they dont waffle on the decision.”
Hee hee hee hah hah. Thanks for the out loud guffaw.
Sorry....couldn’t resist. Nice face-palm.
....I can personally vouch that all 3 should know all about "Sap(s)" as they are all one in the same!!!
Does that include fake intelligence in Washington, DC?
Can you improve your performance so nobody has to fake it? I don’t see how one could “fake,” myself, but then, my husband knows what he’s doing.
Ooooops, I messed up having just glanced at the article—having already been aware of what these MORONS were up to from local news—as well as having a difficult time distinguishing between Maine’s 2 “Beeatch-Sistahs” the Bobbsey Twin RINO’s (Collins and Snowe) I chose the wrong one, though I’d bet the farm (if I had one) that Snowe would support this stoooopid (feel-good) legislation as well.

Can we make women faking it a felony also?
They can fake a label, but they cant fake the taste.
Where are the Log Cabin Republicans on this?
Got sick of seeing that “Duh Oh” from the Simpson’s they post here every so often and which by the way I’ve never watched. We have it down here but it’s a show I’ve never cared for.
No punishment is too severe for selling fake maple syrup!
Criminalization of all sorts of civil infractions is a good to get control of the population.
We have all the laws we'll ever need. All the "lawmaking" done these days consists mainly of naming an existing law after someone or making an existing law ridiculously specific to some group which may or may not be funneling cash to the "lawmaker."
“Can we make women faking it a felony also?”
Can of worms there FRiend. Much like the first denier of a fart.
Absolutely wrong! Maple syrup (the real stuff) contains natural phenols, which make it far less a danger for diabetics than pure sugar.
That must be darn good syrup
Wouldn’t Laz have to be able to notice?
