BREAKING: CDC Backs HPV Vaccine for Boys
FoxNews ^

Posted on 10/25/2011 12:58:48 PM PDT by Scythian

A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advisory panel recommended Tuesday routine vaccination of boys ages 11 and 12 with Gardasil, which protects against infection from human papilloma virus. The panel unanimously approved the plan, with 13 votes in favor and one abstention.

The panel also advised that vaccinations with Gardasil begin in boys as young as 9 years old.

The recommendation, from the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, elevates the urgency placed on immunization against HPV, one of the most common sexually-transmitted diseases and a major cause of cervical cancer. Previously, doctors were free to use the vaccine in boys, but the panel had stopped short of proposing routine vaccination.

To me this “recommendation” is saying, “Since it’s a given that your child is going to have sex with a bunch of people, you need to get him/her vaccinated.”

Look at all the problems that are caused by disobeying one of the 10 Commandments and having sex outside of marriage. Unwanted pregnancies resulting in a very high percentage of those kids growing up in poverty and without a father. Or, the aborting of that child which, as well as killing that baby very often causes the mother mental distress for years. Incurable diseases. Unstable relationships. Etc., etc. etc.

So WHY doesn’t society prevents a huge number of problems and tell kids, “DON’T HAVE SEX UNTIL YOU’RE MARRIED!”??

My dad once said, “There is not one commandment that, by obeying it, makes your life worse.” (or something like that)

Now, to add to the above remarks, I’m not saying I was perfect, I’m not saying all kids are perfect, I’m not saying parents can control what their kids do, and if parents make an informed decision to have their kids vaccinated, I have no criticism for them.

But it says a lot about society—and it’s not good—that we just assume kids are going to have sex with more than one person, without being married to that person.

So, we should vaccinate males because it helps protect against warts?

Yes, but there's more. Also HPV is detected in 42% to 80% of penile cancers (Partridge and Koutsky). Also if you vaccinate males, that's one less infection vector for females.

Of course, for some it's an article of faith that the CDC, FDA, NCI, and other alphabet soup health and medicine institutions are corrupt liars trying to take freedom and kill people to profit lobbyists. And it's all Perry's fault. /s

This recommendation shouldn't surprise anyone. Gardasil was approved for use in males by the FDA in 2009.

We’ve been studying the old Testament in small groups at our church, especially the Ten Commandments. While I agree that Christian teachings disapprove of premarital sex, the Ten Commandments and the early old Testament don’t actually condemn such activities. Leviticus 20:11 defines adultery as relations with a married woman. And the Commandments simply say thou shalt not commit adultery.
The closest we might come to a condemnation of premarital sex is to key off of First Corinthians 7:2, which says that since there is so much immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband. But we have to then make the leap from immorality to premarital sex to carry that theme through the Bible.
Not making a judgment on premarital sex in all instances. But most of us (more than 90%, at least, statistics would show), have it, and often not with the one we eventually marry.

Could you elaborate? My 18 yo daughters doctor is really pushing it on her so much so she told my daughter about her friend who has cervical cancer and wished she had the vaccine.

Let’s see. Perry’s go ‘round with that idea with girls was considered by some as criminal...and now the CDC approves of it for boys.

Somethin’s fishy here!

Another point is that there is not one vaccine (that I’ve ever heard of) that is 100% effective. Sort of like condoms...

Sometimes there are consequences for bad choices (well, usually there are!) and sometimes those consequences are really bad. That’s just the way life is.

Not saying I want it like that or anything, I’m not God, He makes the rules, and as we sow, we reap. Some things can help ease the reaping, but sometimes nothing helps. Or take the vax (in this instance) and risk having some really severe reactions from it.

I’m one of those people who get side effects to everything, sometimes effects that aren’t even listed on the long paper! So basically I avoid all drugs until it’s a life threatening tooth infection or something. Other than that, nada.

my daughter felt a little ill after her first shot...nothing major. I thought it was a typical reaction to a vaccine.

She went in for her 2nd shot. Within 10 minutes of the shot, she had fainted, vomitted, and was having a seizure.
She had never had a seizure her entire life.

She won’t get the third shot, and none of her siblings will get the vaccine either.

I’m not a shill for the drug. With Merck involved (Vioxx)it would need to be witten in stone that it is safe.

We have really allowed our society do degenerate to a level I never thought possible. Hope god takes mercy on us and helps us turn this around.

When your little girl grows up and marries some young man who may have been sexually active and gives her HPV. Then she developes cervical Cancer. You be sure to tell her that you were against the vacine that could have prevented the Cancer.

Is there anything stopping you from having your daughter vaccinated without the government holding your hand?

At this point, I think only the sound of gunfire will wake us up.

Or put a few to sleep.

Also...

http://www.ahrp.org/cms/content/view/631/103/

FACTS about HPV:

There are more than 100 different types of HPV and at least 15 of them are oncogenic (potentially cancerous).
The current vaccines target only 2 oncogenic strains: HPV-16 and HPV-18.
The relationship between infection at a young age and development of cancer 20 to 40 years later is not known.
HPV is the most prevalent sexually transmitted infection, with an estimated 79% infection rate over a lifetime.
The virus does not appear to be very harmful because almost all HPV infections are cleared by the immune system.
In a few women, infection persists and some women may develop precancerous cervical lesions and eventually cervical cancer.
It is currently impossible to predict in which women this will occur and why.
Likewise, it is impossible to predict exactly what effect vaccination of young girls and women will have on the incidence of cervical cancer 20 to 40 years from now.
The vaccine’s effectiveness is confirmed for only five years.
The true risk /benefit of the vaccine can be determined only through clinical trials and long-term follow-up.
