TUNIS, Tunisia (AP) -- A moderate, once-banned Islamist party in Tunisia is on track to win the largest number of seats in the first elections prompted by the Arab Spring uprisings, according to partial domestic results Tuesday.

The Tunisian electoral commission said the Ennahda party has won 18 out of 44 domestic seats so far in a 217-member assembly meant to write a new constitution.

I can’t think of anybody in this forum who would be surprised by this, nor amused by it, except, perhaps for the trolls that soil the forum from time to time.

“Moderate Islamists” with pseudo-moderation designed to gain power. Then they manifest as fully Islamist. Erdogan is an example.

If somebody were truly a “moderate” Muslim, they would be an apostate.

I must admit to some confusion. At one time we were all extolling the virtues of “moderate Muslims” who were okay with a secular democracy as long as they could practice their religion. These “moderate Muslims” were okay with other religions in their country.

Now we are extolling the virtues of “moderate Islamists” who “only” require Sharia law and, if Eygpt is an example, don’t like other religions even if they are sub servant to Islam. Limited democracy is okay as long as Sharia is respected and the “right” people run the government.

Next I’m sure we will discover the joys of Salafist Islam. Anyhow that is surely the direction in which Tunisia, Eygpt and Libya are going. They are sure to get along well with Iran, Pakistan, soon to be Afganistan, and soon to be Iraq.

Next we need to get rid of that troublesome entity, Israel and O will oversee peace and unit in the Middle East and North Africa. Have I missed anything?

So far not a majority. I’m not sure who all the other parties are. Hoping they are more moderate (yes, there are moderate Muslims).

“Moderate Islamists”

“Pakistani Ally”
“Mideast Peace”
“Government Efficiency”
“Clinton’s Integrity”
“Afghan Stability”

...since we’re in the oxymoron zone....
