>>How could this be? I thought Brit Hume had declared that Cain had peaked?<<

Yes, that’s clearly what the political commentators are looking for, i.e., Cain to crash and burn under close examination, just as Bachmann and Perry did before him.

I think what they’re missing is that Cain has some of what we called Reagan’s “Teflon” quality. Criticism of his day-to-day “gaffes” seems to be sliding off of him without doing serious damage. At least that’s what appears to be happening.

And, if so, I think it’s because, as with Reagan, he seems comfortable with his principles, and those principles are aligned with the vast majority of Republican voters (and a hell of a lot of Independents as well.)

I might be wrong, but I don’t think Cain is going to see his ratings dip the way Perry’s and Bachmann’s did. I also don’t think Gingrich is going to catch on, even though he’s supposedly such a great thinker...so explain his huge gaffe when he panned Paul Ryan’s budget plan, a gaffe that possibly cost him his chance...

But, we’ll know in a month or so...

Incidentally, I watched Cain’s entire 40+ minute speech to the AZ Republicans that someone linked to in another thread. He is an absolutely great speaker...no notes that I could see, no teleprompter...no stepping on his own lines...he even managed to ask for a glass of water and get it without interrupting the flow of his delivery. He is every bit as good a public speaker as Reagan was, and is drawing from the same principles. And now both the MSM and the Republican establishment are now trying to paint him as a simpleton....perfect!

Given the present attitude the ‘LameStream’ media is in I fully expect to read stories about how Cain’s candidacy is going to or is crashing six months into first term as President.

Everyone should watch that 40-min speech.

And everyone should watch Gingrich at the Faith and Freedom conference.

Those are our two best choices.
