Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) wants Iraq to pay America back for the war effort that overthrew Saddam Hussein but also dragged on for nine years.
"I believe that Iraq should reimburse the United States fully for the amount of money we've spent to liberate these people," the presidential candidate said on CBS's "Face the Nation."
"They're not a poor country, they're a wealthy country," Bachmann said.
Bachmann lambasted the looming withdrawal of American troops as more "politically based than military based."
"If you look at every time we have deposed a dictator, the United States has always left troops behind to enforce the fragile peace," she said.
And in a jab at President Barack Obama's chief political strategist David Axelrod, Bachmann quipped: "It's more like a General Axelrod is making this decision."

good luck.
will iran allow this?
Any money coming out of Iraq will go to Iran.
I agree with Michele however insane Hussein will make sure that we don't see a dime before he leaves office.
The same happened with Kuwait in 1990 — we never got paid for dragging their asses out of the fire.
We should’ve allowed Iraq to occupy it permanently. Let them enjoy Islam-on-Islam lawlessness and cruelty.
That is a good thing. I'm 100% behind her on that.

That is just a silly thing to say.
As per the originAL SOFA agreement, negotiated between the Bush admin and Iraq at the end of 2008, and signed by Ryan Crocker US armed forces are to be totally withdrawn from Iraq by the end of the three year contract on Jan 1st, 2012. (snip) So what we have is a Bush withdrawal of troops, as negotiated.Politicizing Iraq
. again: GOP gets sucker punched by Obama/left media stolen thunder
The withdrawal date was set before Pres. Bush left office. All 0bungles did was sit on it and do nothing.
The US will remain the world’s chump and leave Iraq with new power plants, new bridges, new water plants, etc. while this country suffers the debt and the humility.
My understanding is that Kuwait did help pay for the invasion. We also have huge military bases in Kuwait.
Didn’t George W. Bush promise that the war would be paid for by oil reserves in Iraq. My biggest objection to Rick Perry is that he seems to be another GWB.
We need to get out of all of these wars. Reagan would have fought the terrorists covertly and spent a lot less money. If Iraq is not going to help us at all by giving us a good oil deal then I say let them pay for their own defense. When Iran comes knocking at their door perhaps they might be more amenable...
Bush also said, as a way to sell the war to the American people, that it would be paid for with Iraqi oil. Just another politicians lie.
Perhaps, I don’t recall whether he said they would or they should. Bush didn’t take credit for what others did though and the MSM didn’t carry water for him either.

That’s what I thought twenty years ago! After all, the Iraqi move into Kuwait was nothing but a chess move in the already ten-year long struggle for dominance in the Persian Gulf between Iraq and Iran anyway.
Yup ... what with gas hovering around $4/gallon, maybe it's about time we started collecting on this.
Exactly.
