>>> I’ve seen nails put into Perry’s coffin before... >>>

I would never put the nails in this early, but I would like to see the Perry that I liked to re emerge. You know, talk about energy and drilling and tort reform and a good business climate — and contrast that to what we have in the White House now. That would be Perry’s recipe back to the top tier IMO. That’s what I am hoping to see. (and I think his Flat Tax idea is a good thing to talk about too BTW.)

Okay, marty60. I knew you were 100% better than your comment. You’re not responsible for the writings of idiot writers/pundits. This is the nasty primary season, but take solace in the fact that Jim will not permit ANY Romney support here.

NONE. ZERO. AND RIGHTLY SO.

Governor Perry is down right now, but remember, NOT ONE VOTE has been cast!

He hurt himself badly with his poor choice of words in that Orlando debate, “you don’t have a heart” but he can get past that in good time. Keep the faith. I met him in person and he’s a very likeable guy. He just has to be himself in the debates and stop listening to his idiot handlers.

Either they over-prepare him wrongly, (like going after Romney instead of obama) or they under-prepare him on the facts. I say, just let him be himself! He’s won three elections being himself, right?

Romney ONLY represents the 25% or so of the Republican Party that hates anything to the right of Nelson Rockefeller (that includes most Freepers). They will never like us and they will never support our candidate. They would rather see another four years of Obama that a center/right president. It is a waste of time, energy and money to go after that group.

The real battle for the nomination has always been for the support of the remaining 75%. That is where Perry and his people seriously miscalculated. He needed to separate himself from the rest of the field while hitting Obama and IGNOREING Romney's attacks. He has more money and staying power. All he had to do was outlast the rest of the field and when it got to he and Romney, walk away with the nomination. He needed to bring plans for this country to the table immediately. He failed.

Now he has allowed himself to be framed. Almost caricatured. He has a tough hole to climb out of. I don't doubt that he can, but he and his strategists have made this much more difficult than it had to be.

>> Gee, that’s funny, most everyone I know is talking about it and they LOVED it. After years of drab, wishy washy leadership we have someone who was able to give back better then he got. >>

I would never doubt you and your circle of friends, but the polls and the money trail indicates he hurt himself. Again, I say that as one who likes him. And it’s got nothing to do with drab or wishy washy. It has to do with strategy.

In a one on one battle, it helps to take out your opponent. In a large field, it helps more to keep your eye on the ball — taking out Obama. Perry, Mitt, Santorum and Bachmann have done the most attacking of other GOP candidates, and all the damage they caused simply sent voters to Newt and Cain, who kept attacking the liberals.

The polls and the fundraising from the past couple weeks support my thesis here.

I wish he would attack Obama as hard as he attacked Mitt.

Other than the letter by their names, what's the difference?

Yeah, something like that. I really don’t think Perry would have a prayer nationally.

The only way anyone is going to get the nomination is to politically stomp the guts out of Romney. Otherwise Mutt will be the nominee and lose.

The smears on Fred Thompson and Sarah Palin were both traced back to the Romney campaign.

Exactly,I look at it like this the 2010 election was an eye opener for me. He was up against the ultimate Wash. insider Kay Baily:

FromTPM: By Eric Kleefeld - May 7, 2009, 4:54PM
A new Rasmussen poll in Texas finds that Gov. Rick Perry — the man who has suggested his state might secede from the United States — is in a near-tie in his Republican primary against the popular U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison: Perry 42%, Hutchison 38%, with a ±4% margin of error.

You might think it’s bad for the incumbent to be under 50% in his primary, but this could actually be a big improvement for Perry. There isn’t another recent Rasmussen poll for direct comparison, but a survey from Public Policy Polling (D) back in February put Hutchison ahead 56%-31%.
.............................
Then he beat her by 20 points.

I hope Perry is having a good day in D.C. today. He needs to convince those good ole boys he’s the right candidate. We’ll see.

The better way to beat Romney is to give the GOP voters someon else to VOTE FOR!

Romney is stuck in the same percentage.

GOP CONSERVATIVES are desperately trying to find the best and toughest candidate to beat the hell out of The Won, and that candidate sure ain’t Romney.

Independents will always go with a good, solid conservative who’s likeable.

Thus far, that candidate is Herman Cain.

Going after the TV president, Romney, only makes that candidate look mean and petty. Romney care is an old thing now.

Beat Romney by being more likeable, more competent and one heck of a lot more conservative with a conservative record of accomplishments.

GO AFTER OBAMA WITH A VENGENCE. Ignore Romney.

I WOULD ACT AS THOUGH HE DIDN’T MATTER and then say something like this:

“You’re not a conservative Mitt, just like Ron Paul isn’t a Republican -— he’s a Libertarian. Too bad you didn’t run against Obama. He really needed a challenger on his side of the aisle and you’re it, or you’re *the One*!”

Keep the faith. IMO, he just needs to get back to being himself. He should get rid of those professional “handlers.” They’re not worth spit.

No, not privy to that, other than published reports. And only privy to the poll results we can all see. No inside info....

Perhaps you can advise your candidate how the win the nomination?

I respectfully disagree and think Perry is doing what needs to be done. If it doesn't work for him, but takes out Romney, it was still a service to America.

No, the one that gets the most votes will be on the ticket, the attacking crap means nothing to 80% of the voters.

The only way anyone is going to get the nomination is to politically stomp the guts out of Romney. Otherwise Mutt will be the nominee and lose.

I don't know why everyone is this concerned about a loser from the last presidential primaries who is now behind in virtually every poll.

The debates showed that those who stuck to issues, like Cain and Gingrich rose, in the polls, and those that acted like bickering children, like Perry and Romney, went nowhere or dived in the polls. Now you say the way to get the nomination is to attack the other candidates?

The voting public are sick of fighting and bickering of the two parties and of candidates. They want ideas and solutions. The candidate that convinces the voters they have the right ideas and solutions will win. It will have absolutely nothing to do with attacking other candidates.

I owe you a big apology.

I am sorry I attacked you like that.

This primary season has made me crazy.

I do not attack other peoples religion (except Islamofascism). I really do believe that a person faith is a private issue between God and his Believer.

Please accept my apology.

Romney is an exception to that rule. He has to be taken out or he will destroy everyone else in the race until he does.
