Texas Governor Rick Perry lost his cool, lost respect, and lost some supporters in Las Vegas. He might have also lost a prime opportunity to shape his image and get back on top in the race for the GOP nomination.

Anderson Cooper won then.

Of course, all of these debates are won by the media--their goal is to make the candidates look like squabbling small-time amateurs-- and the candidates willingly oblige by taking part in these line-ups.

>>> It depends on the goal. If the goal is to win the nomination, it was a bad strategy. If the goal is to destroy Mitt, it was a good strategy. I am not so sure.>>>

Well, both goals can work together. I think Perry, Cain or Newt will eventually win out among the “non Mitt” semi final voters and will beat Mitt. I just don’t see Mitt getting over the hump. (Nor do I see Huntsman winning the elitist semi final).

The vast majority of the past Democrat primary fights have been over who attacked Bush the best. It has been effective for them for the most part.

I just think that Perry is a very dumb man.

That would explain how he became a Captain in the Air Force and flew C-130's and then managed to become the longest serving Governor in the history of the US. Dumb people do that all the time.

So, Romney uses a company that hires illegals. He doesn’t fire them. He keeps them on. A YEAR LATER they are using illegals again.

I guess he didn’t explain himself well. What’s that all about?

Better yet, why did he keep that company in the first place after they are shown to be using illegals?

Why did he not turn them in for breaking a law that he KNEW they were breaking?

I don’t think Romney looks good in this at all.

And then he physically took a hold of Perry as if he were a Dad trying to dominate a teen. Then he started whining.

I don’t think Perry looked bad in this at all.

Quit pouting Marty,p> You have done nothing but post one lying smear job attack post after another. Don't whine now that your own sowing the wind has reaped the whirlwind of your candidate of choice

You Perrybots were warned to stay out of the gutter and focus on issues. You Perrybots were the ones who decided to make your campaign for Perry focused wholly on personal attack at all the other candidates.

BS.

Assaulter backstabber ROMNEY lost HIS cool.

This article is full of BS.

The ONLY chance Rick Perry has is showing he is
a REAL CONSERVATIVE by taking on Romney, then Obama.

Come on down, Rick Perry.

I am not sure I could bring myself to vote for Romney or Cain.

I guess I will know when we get there.

Right this minute... no, I couldn’t and wouldn’t.

Mitt has been going after Perry from the start through his surrogets, Perry needed to knock him and he did. He showed the world what Romney looked like when shaken. It hasn’t taken Perry out, not by a long shot.

“Let’s see since your a Mormon, and your attacking Perry I will assume you are actually a Romney Supporter running another of your smear jobs.

but it looks like you have plenty of Cainiacs working with you.”

Perry is a walking disaster. Those of us who may or maynot support another candidate don’t even need to point out the obvious anymore.

Perry’s campaign is in a free fall and his debate performance was another disaster despite what his supporters want others to believe. Its the man/woman that makes the campaign shine not it’s supporters. It’s the man/woman that make the campaign tank not it’s detractors.

Perry destroyed his chances when he called conservatives heartless and he destroyed his campaign with his support of illegal alien education inside his own state. And finally, Americans outside of Texas finally got to see what a terrible debater he is and who he holds up against scrutiny...DISASTER!

Willard is stuck at 20% ~ the polls showing higher levels have been sporadic low density outliers ~ those don’t count.

I actually like Cain the best, but as a Mormon, I sure won’t be dissing Mitt on account of his religion, if he does get the nod.

My vote will be toward the best person to beat the Zero. If Cain gan get enough traction, he’s my man.

“Better yet, why did he keep that company in the first place after they are shown to be using illegals?”

Because it was a FRIEND of Romney that he knew from his church! This all came out the last time that worthless POS ran. He admitted it and said it was because the guy went to his church.

I don’t buy in to the nonsense that an elected official most never show anger. If someone lies about you or seriously and for personal gain misrepresents your record I think a bit of “in your face” is appropriate.

No one serious about choosing the right candidate would let something like this sway them. It was a one time thing and not even worthy of the coverage it gets and it would never get this much if the Dems were the ones who were involved.

It hasn’t taken Mitt out and it hasn’t helped Perry either. I think it’s a bad strategy for any of them to focus on the other GOP candidates. I stand by my claim that the one who wins will be the one who attacks Obama (and liberalism in general) the best.

Newt and Cain have risen the most in the past month, while Mitt, Perry, Bachmann and Santorum have not. Do the math.

Perry made a very ill fated mistake to go after Romney on illegal immigrants...And for something that was really petty in the end. Pot calling the kettle black as I see it.

I don’t want either of these morons as president but Perry made a fool of himself (on this one attack alone) up there in Nevada.

Good point. I am not a Mitt guy, but if we’re going to disqualify anyone whose ever had an illegal worker do anything on our house or in our yard - then we’re never going to elect anyone who has been successful enough to hire a contractor to do anything.

Thanks Beagle for the info.

So, if the illegal activity had been running drugs, then he would have kept the company?
Car theft ring and he would have kept the company?

What about ILLEGAL didn’t he understand?

And, because it was his church friend, we can damn sure bet he won’t turn him in as a violator....but to keep him on?

Perry is being unreasonably blasted here. And Romney is getting a pass.

Conservatives all over the place think Perry’s tuition to illegals was awful. What if PERRY had been using a company employing illegals AND THEN kept them on?

But, Romney gets a pass???

The media is doing for Romney what it did for Obama, and fat, dumb, and happy conservatives are playing right along.

I had the same experience. I hoped Perry was the serious contender, but being dumb and pro-illegal disqualifies him.

If Cain can improve in foreign policy, I root for him. Newt is backup, if he is not pro-illegal or global warming nut anymore

For me it comes down to Cain or Perry. I've been working every time they've had these debates, so I haven't seen any of them live. I've had to resort to Free Republic and other news sources and the odd video clip to get a sense of what is going on. It does sound like Perry was not well-prepared to enter these debates...just like someone who only recently decided to run for president. Romney and Gingrich have been running for president for what seems like at least a decade each.

The big question is: whom would I trust most with having the reins of the country. Despite his poor performances in these debates, I'd choose Perry over Romney and Gingrich to be the most reliable CONSERVATIVE!!! president. Gingrich would be more conservative than Romney, but even Newt seems like he'd willing to cooperate with Dems on energy policy. What Perry needs is more time, practice, and maybe new advisors.
