In an unprecedented assault on states rights and our ability to keep our communities safe, the gun lobby is pushing dangerous federal legislation to override Nevadas gun laws. The National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act, more accurately called the Packing Heat on Your Street Act, would allow out-of-state visitors to carry loaded, concealed handguns even if these folks would be violating Nevada law. Nevada residents, on the other hand, would be subject to a different, tougher set of standards for carrying concealed weapons.
Even the NRA has admitted that this is a full-on attack against the very notion that states may set their own strong public safety laws, with the NRA bluntly arguing that states dont have rights. This is the gun lobbys excuse for federal intrusion into Nevadas decision to require basic safety training and prohibit gun carrying by alcohol abusers and many violent criminals. If this law is enacted, a new standard would be set for out-of-state visitors

If my neighbors can all pack heat on my street, I have much less to worry about from would-be robbers.
1) I'd like to see that whole quote, in context, thank you.
2) These days, that's not an inaccurate statement.
Funny he didn’t mention the THOUSANDS on INNOCENT PEOPLE GUNNED DOWN by LAS VEGAS POLICE. If abusing Alcohol is grounds to have your RIGHT to possess a gun revoked, How in the Hell does ANY COP IN VEGAS HAVE A GUN?? Wouldn’t it be a better IDEa to just make it a FELONY for ANY PERSON to consume any MOOD ALTERING or Performance enhancing substance while in Possession of a Firearm, but that would Put every last COP and JUDGE in PRISON, which is where most of them belong. .

Actually, not only should felons (not currently serving a sentence) not have their right to own guns taken from them, there should be NO state laws concerning them. It’s amazing how many people can’t understand the simple phrase “shall not be infringed.”
But the LVMPD are murderers, that we can agree upon.
How dare Washington enforce Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Assembly, Freedom to Worship over Nevada’s laws!
Oh, sorry. That was the 1st Amendment. We’re only talking about the 2nd Amendment. It’s okay to ignore the Constitution.
-context was that "governments" don't have rights --only people do, a statement with which I totally agree---
Just ignoring which part of SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED is Nevada supposed to be able to get away with?
I suppose the Constitution is trumped by state law??
I agree wholeheartedly, but if we are going to continue to pass and enforce blatantly unconstitutional laws, then instead of disagreeing with them I say Embrace the idea and make the LAW APPLY TO ALL PERSONS, NO SPECIAL RIGHTS, NO PRIVILEGES, NO IMMUNITIES of ANY KIND for ANY PERSON EVER. Then they can all live under the SAME laws as us, isn’t that the meaning of “ EQUAL PROTECTION”??
I agree. However, you must be forgetting that all animals are equal, but some pigs are more equal than sheeple./s
I guess this means violent criminals can legally carry in other states?
That is part of their sentence, a type of parole. It is fully within the purview of a state legislature to decide the punishment for crimes within the state. If they decide that lifetime conditions be placed on convicted felons, that is perfectly within the confines of the U.S. Constitution. It is the responsibility of the citizens of that state to elect legislators that will pass reasonable restrictions.
I don't follow that serving a prison term squares everything and that the criminal gets a reset to zero. Being locked away so that you can't harm innocents IS NOT the repayment of a debt. I think that a violent rapist should never again be treated as a full citizen in good standing, and I will vote for legislators that agree with me.
It always irritates me when I hear the left refer to the Second Amendment as “the gun lobby.”
I agree that the extremely violent should have their rights curtailed after they leave prison, but not most other prisoners. The only thing that does is help insure that they will return to prison. They are turned away from lots of jobs, unnecessarily, and as far as being able to obtain a weapon if they want one, they will get it anyway. Gun laws of any kind are the stupidest thing legislators have ever come up with.
OTOH, Nevada doesn’t mind idiot drivers from other states...
Dang it I hate when people gloss over something so simple.
No, it is not. It is a guaranteed individual right.
I figured it had to be something like that. Whenever gun rights comes up, the left will lie more than usual to get people to their side.
