Not to belabor a point, but the logo is definitiely an Islamic style top.

Plant Hall’s tower tops do not curve into a point.

A. Plant Hall is Moorish Revival architecture. The Moors were Muslim.
B. The top part of each tower tapers almost to a point at the bulb and rod holding the crescent (another Muslim symbol) up above it. The logo eliminated the rod and the crescent, so the drawing in the logo was actually less Islamic than the detail of the building it represented. The palm tree, though, looked like three red crescents that were later reproduced as the three stars

Image in the city logo bears scant resemblance to the Plant Hall silhouette.

Ha ha ha. You're really reaching now. The whole point of a logo or an element in a logo is to point out a distinctive feature and only that distinctive feature or it'll get cluttered (and the logo was getting cluttered by putting in too many buildings). The Moorish dome is the most distinctive feature of that building. It's the one people see sticking up into the sky. You may as well say, "Hey, Plant Hall has a bunch of domes, but the logo has only one, so the logo can't be referring to Plant Hall." Notice that the other buildings in the logo are representations of other actual Tampa buildings. There's simply no disputing that the dome represented Tampa University in general and Plant Hall in particular.

Now you are belaboring the point.

Your feeble architectural explanation aside, the domeson Plant Hall distinctly lack the curve to the pointed top shown in the logo.

The base of each tower top is onion shaped, going in a straight line to a donut,,and the top of the dome is truncated. A stylized dome would have easily incorporated what actually exists, as it is a distinct architectural design.

not being from Tampa, my first thought would be that you have a mosque downtown with a dome.
