The 2012 Republican National Convention will take place in Tampa Bay, Florida. The logo selected by the Tampa Bay Host Committee caught flack after Republicans freaked out when some suggested in all seriousness that the logo's minaret "could be considered as Islamic 'Moorish Revival' architectural style." (The palm tree probably didn't help either.)
So when it came time for the GOP to select its event logo, the Grand Old Party tread carefully. Now, the official minaret-free 2012 Convention logo.
According to the Washington Post's piece on the logo, The elephantthe proud and strong symbol of the Republican Partywith his trunk pointed toward 2012 reflects the spirit, unity and strength of our Party as we plan a successful 2012 Republican National Convention that enables us to march toward victory next November, stated convention Chief Executive Officer William D. Harris.

Thats a damn mosque minaret - prayer tower - and has NO DAMN BUSINESS ON THAT LOGO. living in Tampa I can tell the buildings in the logo are representations of current building in downtown Tampa......that isn't a prayer tower.......it's part of the university campus

I am so sick of this Omama shades of red and blue. It was so disturbing to watch the CNN debate under the Omana colors. I want the good old RED and BLUE. I expect the WHITE to become a grey or beige.

One suspects that the artist was simply too lazy to paint in the other forty-seven stars...That artist must have been really lazy since it would have just taken a couple more keystrokes to represent the Obamanation's other 54 states!

They better do something about this. We all know that the convention logo determines the outcome of most elections.
I remember vividly the sweet logo they had in 84 which led to the landslide victory.

question, why are Republicans refusing to recognize the statehood of the other 47 members of The Union? Probably one of the top three dumbest questions ever posed at FR.
I'm sorry I wasted my time responding and that other fellow FReepers wasted their time reading any of this drivel.

why are Republicans refusing to recognize the statehood of the other 47 members of The Union? And the flag only shows seven stripes! A sly attempt at Confederate triumphalism or something more sinister?

Then somebody else would have gotten upset at putting an actual US flag in their logo.

Sounds an awful lot like "Liberté, égalité, fraternité." Well, I'll go reread my Constitution. Maybe it's in there somewhere. just ask all those constitutional socialist scholars in congress......I 'm sure they can find it for you.....

I think the three stars represent the three states that have re-seceded from the Union, which we don’t know about because of the media blackout.

Geez,
could be an example? The "minaret" is a stylized representation of the distinctive features of one of the buildings of Tampa University, the Henry B. Plant Museum, which
is an example of
Moorish Revival architectural style in Florida. What rubes. They can't Google
"minaret" "Tampa" and "landmarks" and find the same thing? It's a freaking
National Historic Landmark!
Here's different view that shows more "Moorish" detail.

Poor guy, look at post 35 and get readjusted. It was in the logo because it's a famous landmark of Tampa.

It’s not the sky-scraper that’s the problem. It’s that little pointy, onion-shaped WHAT? That totally looks Middle-Eastern.
