Black people blatantly excluded from Alabama juries, lawsuit claims
The Guardian ^ | October 22, 2011 | Ed Pilkington

Black people are being systematically and intentionally excluded from jury service in parts of Alabama almost 140 years after the practice was outlawed in the US, a lawsuit lodged with the federal courts alleges.

The class action has been launched on behalf of thousands of black people in Alabama who were allegedly prevented from sitting as jurors in serious criminal cases, many of which carried the death penalty, in a blatant move by prosecutors to achieve all-white or largely white juries. The complaint claims that the practice has been going on for decades.

It relates specifically to the actions of one prosecutor, Douglas Valeska, who is district attorney in the Alabama counties of Houston and Henry. The lawsuit alleges that he, together with his unnamed associate prosecutors, effectively relegated black people in their areas to "second class citizenship".

Valeska was not available for comment. He told the local Dothan Eagle newspaper that the lawsuit was a "a filing by ambush. It looks like they're trying to try their case in the media."

Alabama has the highest execution rate per capita in America, and within the state Houston County is the most friendly towards the death penalty. This county alone has sent more prisoners to death row than than the states of Maryland, South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, New Mexico, and Colorado combined.

The lawsuit has been filed by the Equal Justice Initiative, a non-profit group that provides legal support to prisoners unfairly treated by the system. It says that the alleged discriminatory behaviour in Alabama is replicated widely across the south as a hangover from the days of segregation.

I think someone is mistaking the rights of a potential juror (none, other than to offer to serve) with the rights of the adversaries.

Convicted criminals should not sit on juries.

They belong working for ACORN and the democrat party, of course.

Typical crap from the Jew-hating fanatics at the goosestepping Guardian.

Hey, Ed Pilkington, rip the white sheets off your bed and give us a Seig Heil!

Lawyers routinely exclude intelligent, informed, articulate people. The lawyers’ obligation is to get a jury most likely to favor the client.

Is there some reason you posted a story from the most vile, Jewish-hating, racist newspaper in England without warning readers about what the Guardian is?

"The lawyers’ obligation is to get a jury most likely to favor the client"

Ah, yes....and with today's "Diversity" mentality, that means if you have a black perp, you MUST have a black majority on the Jury, to make sure of an "OJ Verdict".

Racism is alive and well in the black community. Whites need not apply (you'll be accused, anyway).

I didn't know we had one of these "groups". ROTFL! I guess everybody has to be somewhere. "Working" for this "group" beats working at a fast food joint, I guess.

Well, I notice Valeska’s on the Southeast Alabama Child Advocacy Center Board of Directors: and as we all know, “It’s for the children” is the motto of villains nationwide. So let’s not be too eager to spring to his defense.

This is an absurd accusation.

I’ve had jury duty here before and there were plenty of blacks that showed up that day. Jurors are selected at random.

In 2010, African-Americans were responsible 62 percent of homicide, 55 percent of rape, 90 percent of interracial rape, 77 percent of robbery, 55 percent of aggravated assault, and 59 percent of burglary.

These numbers can be found in the official statistics in Crime in Alabama, 2010

http://acjic.state.al.us/cia/2010_cia.pdf

Why are African-Americans disproportionately found in prison? Why are they disproportionately on death row? Could it possibly be because they are disproportionately engaged in violent crime? Just like they are in Wisconsin, California, Pennsylvania, Iowa and Maine?

As for Alabama being a “racist state,” something like 200 blacks are arrested (the vast majority get away) for raping white women every year. Something like 2,000 blacks have been arrested for raping white women in Alabama since 1990.

Now, if Alabama was a racist state, then why would blacks be allowed to get away with that? Why would white people put up one single group being responsible for 77 percent of robbery?

The theory of “institutional racism” is ridiculous. If Alabama was really “institutionally racist,” then the last thing Alabama would put up with is blacks being responsible for an incredible 90 percent of interracial rape. Yet that is the reality of race and crime in Alabama.

More white women have been raped by blacks in Alabama alone since 1980 than blacks were lynched in all of America in the entire Jim Crow era.

The media continues to throw a pity party for blacks even though that group is responsible for 50 to 80 percent of violent crime in Alabama. They continue to push the lie that blacks practiced “non-violence” when the truth is just the opposite.

If Alabama was really “institutionally racist,” as it was when Bull Connor ruled Birmingham, then cities like Birmingham, Montgomery, and Mobile would actually be safe!

Instead, Birmingham has been destroyed under decades of black rule by such luminaries as Larry Langford, and now Jefferson County is on the verge of becoming the biggest municipal bankruptcy in American history.

How can a state that is “institutionally racist” get an A+ for teaching the history of the so-called “Civil Rights Movement,” which allows incompetent and corrupt black mayors to destroy its biggest city, which has allowed at least a quarter of the state to collapse under black rule, which taxes itself to create public schools for blacks, and which tolerates a 9 to 1 ratio of black-on-white interracial rape?

The media exaggerates the “violence” of the Civil Rights Movement out of all proportion to reality. How many people are murdered in Birmingham, Montgomery, Mobile, and Huntsville every year?

The number must dwarf the number of “civil rights activists” who were killed in the 1960s.
