Joe Biden’s Teachable Moments (Mark Steyn Column)
IBD Editorials ^ | October 21, 2011 | MARK STEYN

In one of those inspired innovations designed to keep American classrooms on the cutting edge of educational excellence, the administration has been sending Joe Biden out to talk to schoolchildren. Last week, it was the Fourth Grade at Alexander B Goode Elementary School in York, Pa., that found itself on the receiving end of the vice president's wisdom:

"Here in this school, your school, you've had a lot of teachers who used to work here, but because there's no money for them in the city, they're not working. And so what happens is, when that occurs, each of the teachers that stays have more kids to teach. And they don't get to spend as much time with you as they did when your classes were smaller.

"We think the federal government in Washington, D.C. should say to the cities and states, look, we're going to give you some money so that you can hire back all those people. And the way we're going to do it, we're going to ask people who have a lot of money to pay just a little bit more in taxes."

Who knew it was that easy?

So let's see if I follow the vice president's thinking: The school laid off these teachers because "there's no money for them in the city." That's true. York City School District is broke. It has a $14 million budget deficit.

What a f’ck’g idiot or he’s simply evil.

You don’t discuss adult budgetary issues with children, it’s not like they can vote.

It’d be lovely if he were so concerned about educational excellence that he’d hold the teacher’s union accountable for it.

Since 1970, public school employment has increased ten times faster than public school enrollment.

It takes millions of employees and gazillions of dollars to produce such abysmal results ... while one overworked housewife with a copy of "Alpha-Phonics" and a "Blue's Clues ABC Time" disk can turn out a dozen students who can read.

It’s a good thing we have Mark Steyn. Imagine having to live through this nightmare without having someone pointing out the perverse humor of it all.

You don’t discuss adult budgetary issues with children,...

They knew this at the White House before they discussed it with him.

Steyn is a national treasure. It would be worth going to war with Canada to have him as a US Citizen.

Seriously though, I think that Steyn is America’s Tacitus.

Fascinating strategy by the WH at every turn, but the public is on to them. They’re playing checkers on a chess board.

Luckily, I had the other English teacher. Our public school was good until they closed the inner city school. We went from a 10 out of 10 ranking in 1990 to a 2 out of 10 ranking now.

Thank you Mark Steyn.

Let's all admit that the simple fact that Joe Biden has managed to become a Senator and stay a Senator for some 38 years, proves beyond a doubt that the people of Delaware are as stupid as a rock. At least as stupid as Joe Biden.

Back to Mark, "in order to balance the budget of the United States, you would have to increase the taxes of people earning more than $250,000 a year by $500,000 a year.". Ya see Joe, that's not gonna work.
