"Rick Perry -- now coming out with, really embracing Steve Forbes' flat tax idea -- that's going to gain momentum. I look forward to hearing more of the details," she said. "In fact, when I heard that Rick Perry was embracing of Steve Forbes' idea, I went into my garage and dug out an old book from 1999 that Steve Forbes had written. ......Many aspects of it make so much sense - - about the freedom to choose - taxpayer how to file your taxes …..choose a simpler, fairer flat tax…..many of the aspects of it make so much sense."....

Does he know how many attorneys and CPA’s will be out of business the day after a flat tax goes into effect? You’re talking a minimum of hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of unemployed people.

Not that I think its not worth doing of course, I’ve believed in it forever, but it sure won’t be helping employment now.

“easier taxes would keep those companies in the states along with their capital to reinvest and thus more jobs.”

Somebody has to connect the dots on how a lower tax would create jobs. We now have the lowest tax rate in 50 years and the highest unemployment. GE, paying zero taxes, is still exporting jobs. Obama said 8% unemployment. He was wrong. What % does the flat taxers say by the first midterm? ‘Jobs will be created in the long run’ is just political rhetoric.

Rick Perry proposed and wrote the 2nd and 10th amendments all by himself!

Proof? That’s not the way primary campaigns go, ever. You’re mistaking a poll for a valid statistic.

"FED UP!" -- Rick Perry [forward by NEWT GINGRICH]

Rick Perry's book "almost came too late"

"I wish this book had never needed to be written.

It almost came too late.

America is recklessly accelerating toward economic disaster. Fed Up! may be the last warning sign to the danger that lies ahead.

Rick Perry, Texas governor for the past decade, is uniquely qualified to offer a firsthand perspective on why the United States—the most successful civilization in human history—is being threatened with economic collapse.

I’m curious what % rate Perry will propose.

Naturally, I’m against any and all forms of taxation. But given the choice, I like Cain’s fair tax proposal (phase 2 of 999) better than a flat income tax tax. Why?

Firstly, because a sales tax is more consistently visible than an income tax—the latter only shows up on your paychecks and tax returns, etc. I’d rather keep it constantly thrown up in people’s face how much they’re being extorted by the State. A sales tax accomplishes this end better than a flat tax.

Secondly, a sales tax minimizes class warfare tactics by better assuring that everyone has “skin in the game” so to speak. An income tax is still a tax on success, whether it’s flat or progressive.

He never claimed that he did, he has already said that he had been talking to Steve Forbes—so what are you spouting off about?

If the Republican field devolves into a battle of tax plans it hurts us all in the General. Yes, tax reform is important and a key to fast and long term economic growth, but it is not the centerpiece of defeating Barack Obama (The Most Important Step to Saving the Economy.) It will be all too easy for the Left and their media allies to portray the Republican field as obsessed with tax rates and doing the bidding of their rich constituency who want to pay less taxes. Republicans need to be talking about Jobs, Jobs, Jobs. Growth Growth Growth. Tax reform can be the foundation, the keystone, the center piece but you have to call it a “jobs plan” and stop talking about “tax plans”

Today it belongs to Perry.

He is the one in the race that is promoting it.

What’s the matter with you?

It doesn’t belong to Perry. It was around before he was.

It's the same with air. Would it be OK with you if he breathed it?

No one knows the details yet — but people are giving their opinions fwiw:

*************************************

...”When Steve Forbes proposed the Flat Tax in the 1990s, Mitt Romney got so upset about it, he decided to put an ad out attacking the proposal. Romney’s capital gains rate cutoff is very “unflat tax” and locks in place our current progressive-tax complexity and burden. If Perry makes the Flat Tax the centerpiece of his economic plan, he can contrast with Romney, and then bring in other bold-yet-realistic conservative agenda items to round out a full economic program:

* Tax reform – a flatter, fairer system via the Flat Tax.
* Energy independence via drill now and ‘all of the above’ energy policies.
* Entitlement Reform via Social Security choice.
* Balancing the budget and controlling spending via BBA, and ‘cap and balance’.
* Reassert Federalism by returning money and decisions to states.
* Regulation and federal tort reform – repeal Dodd-Frank, etc.
* Healthcare reform – repeal Obamacare, replace with Healthcare Freedom Act (MSAs, buy insurance across state lines, etc.) “

*****************************

..”Will Perry’s proposal help him with GOP primary voters? That remains to be seen of course. But one thing it may do is draw a distinction between him and once-and-current frontrunner Mitt Romney.

According to the Associated Press, in 1996 Romney bought a $50,000 newspaper ad in Boston that said Forbes’ flat tax proposal would primarily benefit the rich. The flat tax “is a bad idea for the Republican Party,” wrote Romney at the time.”...

Taxes are not the country’s biggest problem, jobs are.

Jobs are a symptom of the diseases of taxes and regulations. If we treat the disease, the symptoms will clear up.

Exactly. There is plenty of room for people to like other candidates’ plans while not necessarily being full bore into the candidate. I really like Paul’s idea to cut $1 trillion. But that doesnt mean I like everything else about him. It would be nice to have an honest debate where people could support multiple ideas from multiple candidates without being called a bot or a sell out to another candidate.
