Conquest brings joy to the victors. An excess of joy causes occasional attacks upon the vanquished people-Spartans and their Helots comes to mind. We must become used to these occasional excesses and learn techniques to persuade the conquerors not to assault us. There are techniques one can learn in order to avoid a severe beating; such as averting the eyes, keeping the hands at one’s sides, shuffling the feet, frequent use of the term “master.”
Not every section of the country is “conquered” yet. Very little of that happens around because everyone knows that everyone else is carrying. I am free and I intend to stay that way.
