This is a bruising left hook to the Mitt Romney Campaign. Now we know why the seemingly unimportant exchange over the illegal immigrant hiring.

Well your the first one on this thread who said it wasn't coherent. A couple said it was desperate, which means they understood it but the vast majority loved it.

Illegals in MA are getting free RomneyCare, schooling, housing, food stamp debit cards, etc. So, it's more like pot and cauldron.

That being said, at least Perry didn't have them working on his mansion. If he did, it would have been broadcast.

Is it even possible on FR to post an anti Mitt thread anymore and not be for Cain? You people are really emotionally involved again. He will leave you at the altar just like Palin. get ready for it.

If even remotely attacks the front runner on positions and ideas, I may change my mind about him, but he never will. Bottom line.

Hashed and rehashed. Old, old, old.

You don’t know anything about Texas’ political history or else you deliberately falsify.

Texas was late coming to the Republican Party. All of Texas. Not just a few people and not just Rick Perry.

Phil Gramm was a House Democrat who helped Reagan pass his bills, only later becoming a Republican. He was an economics college teacher before changing.

John Connally became a Republican. He was a long time, powerful Democrat affiliated with LBJ. But he changed.

Ralph Hall of the House of Representatives, was a long time Dem with the most Conservative voting record in the House, bar none, until as a white haired elderly man he finally changed to GOP. He voted “present” rather than vote for Pelosi and her ilk while a Dem. He voted against bailouts and debt ceiling raises, etc, just recently.

Zell Miller of GA will die a Dem, because his father would never understand if he became a Republican. But he votes conservative and campaigns for select Republicans.

Texas is Dem by TRADITION, going back for generations. Rural TX was especially wedded to Dems. The Republicans were forever associated in their minds with Herbert Hoover and the Depression, and with Reconstruction after the Civil War.

Only gradually, and in fits and starts, did it come around but it came.

You want to assign something to Rick Perry, who is from one of the most rural and traditional counties in TX, something that applies to an entire state.

Wise up, or just drop the foolishness.

I agree with you re switching from Democrat to Republican.

I also wonder how many of these FReepers who are slamming Perry for his long-ago affiliations were big time supporters and cheerleaders of the courageous Zell Miller when he was urging other conservative Democrats to support Bush. You know, the one who STAYED a democrat but was supportive of a Republican in the Presidential campaign.

Seems that if one supported a principled stance by Zell, while he remained a democrat, and then jumping all over a Republican who left the Democrat party years ago is a little...uhm...oh, I can’t think of the right word...

maybe specious? Or hypocritical?

I don’t know. I’m sure there’s one that’s perfectly descriptive.

“True, willard paid a couple of illegals, perry educated thousands. Talk about pot and kettle.”

I guess you missed the part about Romney giving illegals Insurance, and thanking Obumbler for doing the same thing.

No doubt, but perry agrees with the freebies so he would say it was heartless not to do it. Two little rinos humping, that is why most people find it disgusting .

Cain seems to have little trouble attacking Perry, but he seems to avoid attacking Romney.

There are those who [thanks Katie Couric] think Cain is only vying for a VP slot on the Romney ticket. Cain did support Romney in 2008, IIRC. And Cain has vehemently said he would not accept a VP slot on a Perry ticket, but would entertain the idea from ‘any’ of the other candidates.

Cain’s own statement makes him amenable to any other the others, including the liberal Romney. Thus, how can the Cainiacs be so opposed to Romney when their own guy is for him?

Your points are very well taken. To back up your comments, Rick Perry was the very 1st REPUBLICAN Lt.Governor elected in the state of Texas. Ever.

Albatrosses - Cain supported Romney in 08

And when it was between Romney and McCain, these people also supported Romney: Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, Sheriff Joe, Tom Tancredo and others. There were few good choices in 2008.

And, of course, Rick Perry supported that gold standard conservative: Rudy Giuliani of NY.

DUH, there is no difference in the health care for illegals in Texas and the health care for illegals in yankee ville. Except that it is probably a thousand time more in Texas. Still paid for by joe tax payer and not the illegals. And we would not have a health care problem in this country if it were not for the millions of illegals riding the system.

Talk about misleading. This has nothing to do with Perry doing things Cain won’t do. It has everything to do with Perry striking out to remasin in the gsme let alone become the Pubbied Pres. candidate.

There is still a long way to go to November 1012. It’s never a good thing to shoot early. Cain is surging and it isn’t because he’s supported by the usual special interests, is backed by the RINO-led GOP, running copious ads or has a lot of money. It’s because he has a moral core, of what he says and of what he’s done (not as member of the political elite).

In the absense of any other info—and Cain continues his ascent—it will be interesting to see what the RINO-led ( demrat party-controlled) GOP will do when it comes time to put the national ticket together.

Hardly. It’s neither a shaky defense nor an indication that Perry is a “slow learner.” Perry is younger than Reagan and therefore would not have changed as early as Reagan did. Furthermore, to paraphrase the old adage, if you’re not a liberal when you’re 20 you’re heartless; if you’re not a conservative when you’re 40, your brainless.

Quite frankly, everything else being equal, I would place more trust in someone who started as a democrat and then made a mature, considered choice to switch to the republican party than I would in someone who was a life-long republican because that is how the family has always been (I ain’t sayin’ that’s you, I’m just sayin’).
