At an appearance at George Washington University...Bill Maher bounded into territory that the news media have been gingerly tiptoeing around.
Magic underwear. Baptizing dead people. Celestial marriages. Private planets. Racism. Polygamy.
By any standard, Mormonism is more ridiculous than any other religion...Its...founded on the idea of polygamy. They call it The Principle. That sounds like The Prime Directive in Star Trek.
He said he expects the Romney crowd...to once more gloss over the differences between Christians and Mormons.

Another famous nonbeliever, Christopher Hitchens, wrote in Slate...about the weird and sinister belief system of the LDS...
Aside from Joseph Smith, whom Hitchens calls a fraud and conjurer well known to the authorities in upstate New York, the writer also wonders about the Mormon practice of amassing archives of the dead...to retrospectively baptize everybody as a convert.
Hitchens noted that they got hold of a list of those put to death by the Nazis Final Solution and began making these massacred Jews into honorary LDS members as well. He called it a crass attempt at mass identity theft from the deceased.
The Mormons even baptized Anne Frank.
It took Ernest Michel, then chairman of the American Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors, three years to get Mormons to agree to stop proxy-baptizing Holocaust victims.

Kent Jackson, the associate dean of religion at Brigham Young University, says that while Mormons are Christians, Mormonism is not part of the Christian family tree.
It probably wont comfort skeptical evangelicals and Catholics to know that Mormons think that while other Christians merely have a portion of the truth, what God revealed to Joseph Smith is the fullness of the truth, as Jackson says...

The realities of the Mormon faith will be superimposed as the imprimatur of the entire GOP! The face of Mormonism will be interpreted by the world as ridiculous, weird, racist, fraudulent, sinister, theocratic [baptizing even dead people], superstitious [magic underwear]
If Romney wins the nomination, Republicans will begin to feel the drag-down impact that Mormons have had upon Christianity. The bizarre will be associated with your very identity.
From the article: Magic underwear.
The glossing-over was ramped up this week in a piece in the Washington Times and another source...where the writers tried the angle of focusing only on theological issues Mormons had in common with Christians while ignoring huge, glaring differences.
The Times writer even redefined Mormon basics as claiming that "salvation comes only through faith in Jesus and baptism in His name" -- ignoring Mormon teachings about the need to save yourself by lifting yourself up by your own bootstraps!
Yup. Thats Mormonism for you. Identity theft of the religious loved ones who have died. And identity theft attempts of Christianity with its attempt to hijack Christian as its own brand name declaring the original Christianity as dead and buried Joseph Smith and generations of Mormons have attempted scorched-earth religio-politics, digging a mass grave for Christianity and attempting to build a new religion on top of our supposed tombstone.
The official doctrinal Mormon name for this is universal apostasy. It just means that they believe all Christian spiritual ancestors went AWOL long ago meaning that you are spiritually illegitimate. Thats right. Lds teaches, in effect, that all Catholics, Protestants and Orthodox are spiritual bastards. Were illigit. Because they believe our authority is lacking.
Yep...that's why Romney must be stopped now.
Kent Jackson, the BYU associate dean of religion, is infamous for trying to put the best spin on describing Christian denominations for one audience [go to the article to say all he said] while in the past. Hes written extensively on the so-called universal apostasy of Christianity going back 27 years for his normal audience of Mormons. What follows is one example where Jackson labels Protestant, Catholic and Orthodox churches as under the umbrella of the church of the devil doesnt that just inspire all you Christian voters to vote for a Mitt Romney whose church teaches that your church is, to cite, Jackson, classified as the church of the devil?
A. BYU professor Kent B. Jackson: "Since whoever does not belong to 'the church of the Lamb of God' belongs to 'the church of the devil,' as Nephi announced then all systems of worship outside of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints would be classified as 'the church of the devil' by Nephi's definition (Kent B. Jackson, "Watch and Remember" etc. from publication By Study and Also by Faith: Essays in Honor of Hugh W. Nibley on the Occasion of His Eightieth Birthday, 3/27/90, vol. 1, p. 87, citing 1 Nephi 14:9-10 from the Book of Mormon)
This could be a good thing, it would be a great way to educate the people in a huge way. The Mormon church has spent years trying to perfect their image but it wouldn't take much to undo that because the truth is damning to them.
I always find if funny when Mormons publicly denounce the FLDS as a cults....
Don’t forget about the Mountain Meadows Massacre on Sept 11, 1857 ...
While he later revisited that concept and discussed works, he ignored how truly self-focused the Mormon concept is of earning your way to godhood. Here's documentation of that:
Many people know of Spencer W. Kimball, the 12th "prophet" of the Lds church (1973-1985), as the man who allowed blacks to become Mormon priests in 1978.
But did you know Mormonism teaches you are all "gods in embryo"??? (And Kimball was one of its key proponents)
Did you know that Mormonism teaches the false "gospel" of self-transformation -- of pulling yourself up by the bootstraps to become a god? (And Kimball was one of its key proponents)
Spencer W. Kimball on these very topics:
1969 "Being a god in embryo with the seeds of godhood neatly tucked away in him, and with the power to become a god eventually, man need not despair...he must...transform himself..." (Spencer W. Kimball, The Miracle of Forgiveness, pp. 173-174)
A couple he was advising in Kimball's office "did not understand that forgiveness is not a thing of days or months or even years but is a matter of intensity of feeling and transformation of self...This couple seemed to have no conception of satisfying the Lord, of paying the total penalties and obtaining a release..." (Ibid, p. 156)
To Kimball, you had to "pay the total penalties" for your sin -- vs. that being a role occupied by the true Jesus Christ.
September, 1974: Man can transform himself and he must. Man has in himself the seeds of godhood, which can germinate and grow and develop. As the acorn becomes the oak, the mortal man becomes a god. It is within his power to lift himself by his very bootstraps from the plane on which he finds himself to the plane on which he should be. It may be a long, hard lift with many obstacles, but it is a real possibility. Source: http://speeches.byu.edu/reader/reader.php?id=6057 (Spencer W. Kimball speech entitled Be Ye Therefore Perfect 9/17/74 devotional address @ BYU)
1975: Man is created in the image of God. He is a god in embryo. He has the seeds of godhood within him, and he can, if he is normal, pick himself up by his bootstraps and literally move himself from where he is to where he shows he should be." November 1977: Self-mastery, then, is the key, and every person should study his own life, his own desires and wants and cravings, and bring them under control. Man can transform himself and he must. To be perfect, one can turn to many areas as a starting place....As we have stated before, the way to perfection seems to be a changing of ones lifeto substitute the good for the evil in every case. This is in stark contrast to the Christian gospel of the Bible where we are saved thru faith, not works; otherwise we could boast in ourselves, said the apostle Paul. [See Ephesians 2:8-10]. V. 10 addressed the works we do -- that we ourselves are the worksmanship created by God...therefore even in our works, the Ultimate Artist, God, gets the credit and glory for any goodness arising from and through them.
Yes and no. Yes, God could use this to yield a mass exodus of the Mormon religion as its adherents discover more and more of its history and heresy.
But an emphatic "no" in at what cost to our nation? A Romney nomination = an Obama victory. Will the nation be held hostage politically so that some Mormons can be saved?
It’s the Republican Elite’s fault for not recognizing the Mormon Problem, before they anointed Romney as “The One.”
What about all of the poor saps who died before Joey Smith was born, what about them?
WHAT does that mean??
I don’t have a problem with Romney being a mormon.
Too illigit to quit! LOL!
Glenn Beck, on his radio show today, came out really strong against Maureen Dowd and this specific hit piece. He talked about his Mormon faith for some time, and said how disgusted he is with Maurine and tyne NYT putting this garbage out.
I agree.
Harry Reid and Milt Rominy (it rhymes with hominy, the huskless corn product) are appropriate poster boys for the “And I’m a Mormon” campaign.
He was for Mormonism being a part of Christianity before he was against it.
