Rick Perry's Support for a Flat Tax Cheers Steve Forbes (Forbes, Gramm advising Perry)
WSJ ^ | Oct 19, 2011 | John D. McKinnon

Rick Perry's embrace of a flat tax makes the tough-talking Texas governor the unlikely political heir to Steve Forbes, the nerdy publisher and erstwhile presidential candidate.

Mr. Forbes, who ran in 1996 and 2000 and now is advising the Perry camp, said that the "concept remains the same" as his own flat tax plan from the 1990s.

You got emotionally involved. This is a long campaign. Cain has 1 plan but it was full of holes. He now is dropping the tax for the “economically disadvantaged” which kills Cain and his plans appeal. This is not a personality contest. It was clear Cain couldn’t even explain his plan that is now been changed.

Rubio is a tea party darling but not interested in national sovereignty insofar as defending our borders is concerned—his reaction to the Arizona law was immediately condemnatory.

He is over the hill. Had cancer scare. His best years are behind him and were spent at God Fathers Pizza. Perry and Romney are still in good health

Tea Party folks won’t buy what he is trying to sell.

You can only speak for yourself. You shouldn't presume to speak for the tea party.

I'd love to see the attempt at a discussion between Steve Forbes and Rick Perry; there's only about an 80 point difference in their IQs.

Who are you kidding? I don’t support any candidate yet. I am firmly against Romney and Perry though because neither is what they claim to be. Far from it.

You clearly have not read Cains plan.

Purchases made by companies for manufacturing are exempt from the tax. A VAT this is not.

Just go read how his plan works and then come back and try to characterize it as a VAT.

“...has he really done a 380?”

I think you meant 180 (an about-face) or did you mean 360 (a full circle) or maybe you meant a 20? (not sure what that would denote?) :-)

Cain really does have you worried that your boys Perry and Romney are in danger of losing if you're sinking that low.

Whether you like Cain's plan or not, at least he has a plan. Apparently Rick doesn't believe in preparing for debates or campaigns.

I like the Forbes flat tax better than 9-9-9.

Perry seems to now be stealing stuff from other candidates. I guess he figures that 9-9-9 got Cain to the top - he might as well steal the idea from him and try to climb back out of the abyss.

I don't think so. I believe Perry favored the flat tax in his book, which was released in 2010. He seems to be putting a lot of thought and getting a lot of advice before throwing a plan out there.

Given Cain and he are best pals, I would guess he’ll pull in Cain in the hope of getting conservatives to vote for his nasty self.

Now we got a sales tax with loopholes for special cases. A new tax system just like the old tax system.

“ Of course I support a flat tax ! “

To be honest, at this point in time, I expect one of two things from Romney.

Him to claim he has always supported a flat tax, and then attack everyone else claiming they don't support it as much as he does....

or

Him to attack it as being to extreme, and saying it lets "the rich" off,. and attacking from the left the way Obama would (and he may even plagiarize the dems).
