OAKLAND -- Protesters who have brought the Occupy movement to San Francisco are fighting for the ability to camp out from one night to the next. But the scene in Oakland couldn't be more different.
Over the past nine days in Oakland, officials have allowed activists to construct an astonishing mini-city of more than 150 tents in a plaza outside City Hall, complete with a kitchen, a school and a first-aid station. Covering what was once a grass lawn is a layer of straw, and walkways made of wood pallets and cardboard.
The talk on Tuesday was of a long occupation - ..
In San Francisco, Mayor Ed Lee made clear that while he supports the "spirit" of the demonstrations, he will not tolerate protest encampments. Police have moved in twice in recent days to take down tents and confiscate camping gear from Justin Herman Plaza near the Embarcadero and from in front of the Federal Reserve Bank in the Financial District.
At a morning meeting in Oakland, meanwhile, protesters discussed installing solar panels and setting up a nonprofit proxy for fundraising. They weighed whether to launch a laundry operation and fine-tuned a system for alerting each other to late-night police raids. Taking cues

Camp Rat Feces II
What has become of Oakland,, much less San FRan?
it's the 60s and worse , 40 years on..
This is WONDERFUL. I can´t think of a finer thing to happen to Oakland. Wow, so GREAT this is good news. Ya´ll send the riff raff to Oakland now and support this noble cause. Woo...Hoo. Last time I was in Oakland it looked already like a hobo camp of the Great Depression, this will be Value Added. Yeah!
That's nice that the city is asking these people to refrain from these anti-social actions. On the other hand, some people don't even have to be asked.....
Oakland’s just happy somebody sees a reason to come/stay there; what a toilet.
The rumble between the Tap Dancing Christmas Trees
and the looters should attract quite a crowd.
So how long will it take for disease to break out in one of these “camps” and the protesters sue the city?
