Whew. Can you have a debate in which nobody wins?
The seven Republican presidential candidates on the stage during the GOP debate in Las Vegas Tuesday slapped, swatted, slashed, jabbed, picked, and poked at each other for two hours. As might be expected, most of the emerged bloodier and more ragged than when they walked in.
But then, these things are contestslargely political sporting events. So if a winner must be crowned, make it Rick Perry, who showed some fire in his willingness to go toe-to-toe with Mitt Romney, whose aura of inevitability waxed and waned during the debate. Perry was just about the only candidate who has reason to smile today.
Romney, under attack for most of night not only from Perry but from the likes of Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum, was at times peevish and other times rattled, particularly on the subject of immigration. At one point, Romney lost his cool and touched Perry on the shoulder as he was interrupted....
[skipping to my favorite part -- the LA Times likes it too and printed a partial transcript]
Romney went on to lecture Perry on debate etiquette: "You have a problem with allowing someone to finish speaking," he said. "And I suggest that if you want to become president of the United States, you got to let both people speak."
Back to the immigration issue, Romney got candid: "So we went to the company and we said, look, you can't have any illegals working on our property. That's -- I'm running for office, for Pete's sake, I can't have illegals. It turns out that once again they hired someone who had falsified their documents -- and therefore we fired them."

Rudy Giuliani asked Mitt Romney the same question in the 2008 CNN debate that Rick Perry asked him during the CNN 2011 debate -- Mitt lost it both times.
Nov 28, 2008 CNN-YouTube Debate: Sound familiar? [LOOK who interrupts whom!!]
Funny Accent Mitt Romney, discussing reports illegal immigrants did landscaping at his home: It would "not be American" to check workers' papers simply because they have a "funny accent." [acknowledges need for giving health care and education to illegals]
Sound familiar? Mike Huckabee, replying to Romney's criticism of providing college scholarships to children of illegal immigrants: "In all due respect, we are a better country than to punish children for what their parents did."
At the same debate: John McCain: "We must recognize these are God's children as well. ... I will enforce the borders first. But we won't demagogue it."
Both Romney and Perry are disaster candidates for us IMO.
They are both prone to showing their attitudes far from the mainstream of the GOP base when they go unscripted.
Somebody DID win.
Newt.
As long as these candidates CONTINUE to permit LEFTIST media personalities TURN THEM AGAINST each other in these bogus “debates”, either Romney will be nominated OR they will have allowed the Lefstist media organs to make the elections about THEM and THEIR MINISCULE flaws rather than the GLARING flaws of the Marxist Muslim Phoney Anti-American bastard in the Oval Office.
AND, if that happens, THEY LOOSE - no matter who is nominated.
DESPITE his flaws - I LIKE NEWT. I like the way he put that little bastard Chris Wallace in his place in the first debate. So did Hermann Cain.
I like Newt, Cain, Bachmann and Perry as a last choice.
Yeah! Finally someone goes after that little snit - Romney in a big way.
Funny some people here not to happy about that even when this forum is supposedly to be anti Romney.
Main Street Media continues to push Their Candidate on Conservatives/GOP Voters.
That’s the headline for nearly all the articles describing these debates.
Too bad none of them know how to really fix things, so this is all we get.
Wow, you were able to find a liberal headline to support your candidate as well as Romney.
Most conservative pundits today say that Newt and Cain won.
Well not quite eenie meenie mainee mo.
Because Cain maintained his composure - something necessary in a President.
Passion yes - petulant - NO!!!!
IF you'd rather NOT be pinged FReepmail me.
IF you'd like to be added FReepmail me. Thanks.

It’s easier to flip flop on doing an add about global warming than it is to flip flop on - actually making policy like RomneyCare or Perry’s illegal Alien Dream act.
Everyone had their high points but Romney stuck out like the [FILL IN THE BLANK] he is — that everyone knows he is.
Thank you Gov. Perry!
Bravo.
Did Romney & Perry walk into a well planned trap by CNN? Maybe yes, maybe no whatever, they both looked less like statesmen. The ‘elephant in the room’ was Newt Gingrich, the only true statesman on that stage...actually the only adult in the group giving crisp clear answers and just about as nonpolitical as Herman Cain. Romney was given way too much time to repeat his rhetoric and Perry, not as glib but just as full of the same old rhetoric...both men were upstaged by all the others.
You know what’s missing here? Attacks by Cain on Romney. Cain and Romney are in this together. It looks like Cain has no intention of damaging Mitt in any way. I wonder why.
No body is perfect and he’s still a hell of a lot better than Obama.
The only way he should pose for a picture with that witch is with his hands around her neck.
