LAS VEGAS (Reuters) - Republican presidential hopefuls ratcheted up their tough talk against illegal immigration in a debate on Tuesday in Nevada, a state where they might need Latino voters to win the White House.
Fierce opposition to illegal immigration and tough border control is one of the party's hot-button policy issues. But some of the talk on the issue -- and the focus on sealing the border with Mexico -- does not go down well with Latino voters.

Sorry about that..
The only risk is to Latinos are the ones crossing into our country ILLEGALLY!!!!
That is pure BS! The Latinos that are here legally recognize that their future is jeopardized too by all the ILLEGALS flooding in to take their jobs and scarf up their ever increasing taxes, clog their schools and hospitals and generally depress their standard of living and hopes for their children's future.
Didn’t polls always show that 80% of Americans strongly oppose illegal immigration?
Cain has this right when he mentions controlling illegal entry so people can enter the country by the “front door”.
It’s such a simple thing to explain to the American people that immigration must be controlled and that illegal immigration is a bad thing. The GOP does a terrible job explaining things.
not all mexicans agree with the democrat-republican progressives that claim
mexicans want the border open.
many american mexicans want the border closed to protect their jobs and their security.
Border states from CA to TX are being overrun with illegals and cartels and somehow we still have to be oh-so-careful on the border subject with Latinos. Well... if the Latinos are as awesome as they think they are.. they’ll get over it. At some point THE RIGHT THING MUST BE DONE!
In Texas GWB pandered to Latinos for votes and it didn’t much matter. Look at the southern border Tx counties and nearly all of them are blue. The smart and in-the-know latinos know whats going on but majority just vote Dem. Why pander or dilute the message.
"Latino voters" are not exclusively of Mexican origin, contrary to what the Reuters authoress implies here. There is no apparent reason why any non-Mexican Latino should take any offense to the notion of a border fence, because it would not affect his ancestral country at all.
As for American citizens of Mexican background, many have been Americans for several generations. They should know that none of the GOP candidates proposes that American citizens of any origin be shipped back to their ancestral homeland, with or without Romney's gratuitous blessing of legal immigration. You can't be a voter without being a citizen, so what should such "Latino voters" fear?
If an American citizen of Mexican origin wants his friends or relatives in Mexico to also come to the United States, he should recognize that there has to be a legal process to follow, just like all the GOP candidates propose.
Unless such a citizen is a radical who believes that the American Southwest is still part of Mexico and that there is no international boundary between the countries, there is no reason for any Latino voter to fear.
You cannot fear to take stands, based upon values & principles, lest you offend somebody or some bodies. Once you succumb to this game--a form of spiritual castration-- the future is lost to the favored demagogues on the Left.

I’m sick of these “hyphenates”.......they set themselves apart from the rest of America for the purpose of extorting us non-hyphenates.
Mexico and the Third World are exploting the “Latino” vote-—facilitating and hyping this as a “voting bloc” to pressure vote-crazed Congressmen into budgeting more and more foreign aid.
The “Pay-Me-I’m-A-Hyphenate” con has to end.
Happens every election cycle with predictable results. Hyphenated Americans overwhelmingly vote democrat since they deliver the handouts faster and more effectively than republicans. The GOP never learns this lesson by pandering. All that does is provide encouragement to distort our political system.
Democrats' affirmative action talk poses risk with white Americans
Those Latinos who favor perks for illegal aliens would never vote for Republicans no matter what the candidates position. Look what happened to McCain who adored them even more than Obama.
"The Republican Party cannot be all things to all people."So following on that I say: "Screw The Latinos". If they are AMERICANS they should want the Border sealed MORE than - what Obama would say - 'the typical white person' does. As it's THEM who are losing their jobs to 3rd cousin Jose who just swam the Rio Grande and is taking his 3rd cousin's job for $5.00 LESS an hour.
And if they are American Citizens but are more concerned about their illegal 3rd cousin and open borders then SCREW THEM, they are not Americans. They're still a hyphenated person whose allegiance lies someplace else. Ergo they should be stripped of U.S. citizenship - even if born here - and airlifted back to their ancestral homeland on the next Cargo plane taking off. Or better still, the next mile long freight train headed South. Just pack them in One person per 2 SF of space -- just like they all live in a tiny apartment.
Furthermore, every one of these 'Immigrant Rights Groups' should be charged with Sedition, arrested, tried, found guilty, and shipped off to the closest Federal Prison. This includes the traitors at the ACLU and my personal favorite anti-American communist enemy, the SPLC.

Poll after poll proves you are right.
You mean the Hyphenate-American population?
