Rick Perry: Time to consider defunding United Nations
CBS News ^ | Oct 18, 2011 | Brian Montopoli

Posted on 10/18/2011 8:03:53 PM PDT by Clairity

Republican presidential candidate and Texas governor Rick Perry said Tuesday that "it's time for us to have a serious discussion about defunding the United Nations."

After saying "I think it's time for this country to have a very real debate about foreign aid," he turned to the U.N., pointing to the Palestinian statehood push in order to criticize the organization.

"When you think about the Palestinian Authority circumventing those Oslo Accords and going to New York to try to create the conflict and to have themselves approved as a state without going through the proper channels is a travesty," he said. "And I think it's time not only to have that entire debate about all of our foreign aid, but in particular the U.N. Why are we funding that organization?"

Cain was by far the worst. He looked nice but even his remark on the OWS was slapped back by Paul pretty viciously and Cain began back tracking.

Perry looked good most of the night. His exchange about the illegals working for Mitt was probably not necessary but it was Mitts neighborhood he was in. I saw Santorum and Perry get booed for going to hard at Mitt.

I actually thought Perry was gonna punch Romney for a second. Perry clearly hates smart ass remarks.

Mitt says alot without saying anything.

No, it is Cain that is there to help Romney, certainly not Perry.

Well at least she was consistent. I thought it was telling how Cain and Romney were able dodge the question of a border fence the entire length of the border. They both came off to me like advocating weaker, less thought out versions of Perry's border security plan.

I think someone will nail down whether or not they are for a complete border fence. My guess is they are not, which any thinking person already knew this.

Nothing happened on SS because Congress wouldn’t pass it. Presidents can’t simply decree legislation to happen - unless you are Obamalini (then everything is up for grabs).

I am no fan of Bush, but, even though I didn’t like his proposal (SS and Medicare need to end), he made a serious effort. Unfortunately the Congress AND a majority of Americans opposed “tampering” with that rotten program.

Yeah, but would he actually do it?

I don't know if he would or not, but I started by saying I'm not a perry guy.

My guy is Cain, and if he says it, I'll believe him.

He did step on his crank tonight in an interview with blitzer, but later on said he screwed up and misspoke re: the prisoner release vs American hostage. Dumb mistake.

I like Bachmann, but she has taken cheap shots at Perry, which annoys me. Romney really is a McCain/Bush amnesty guy. Cain doesn’t fully understand the issue -—yet.

As long as the nominee isn’t Romney or Huntsman I’m fine.

Actually, he’s from the ‘ask forgiveness later’. By the time he asks to do something the State needs it’s already been done.

The man is all action, no talk... so it is likely the UN already lost their lease.

I think that it would be less expensive to move the UN to South Georgia Island. It would also put it closer to the whales that they would like to save.

Wouldn’t that be FANTASTIC?! Lord I wish it would happen! I absolutely detest the UN!

It was out of left field for me, I didn’t expect that at all!

Seeing a lot of truly idiotic comments.

Here it is folks: Perry is not a RINO. He has made some ties and concession out of necessity. If you aren’t from Texas, you won’t understand.

Cain just plain rocks.

If either gets the nomination, the nation wins.

So Cainiacs and Perry supporters, how about this: Let’s support the one who guts obastard and the MSM the most over the next several months!

Did you notice Bachmann was the only one who said she would build an entire fence?
****************
Bachmann is the only one who says she will build a fence every inch, every foot.

I had wanted that but I have read the recommendations and listened to Perry and think his plan will work and be the quickest in securing the border.

If recommended plan seems to not work— start on the fence.

I will vote for either one with joy. More so Perry, because he really intends to inflict some damage and undo a whole lot of damage.

Cain has said this election isn’t big enough for both him and Perry. Perry will hire him... and I will be glad he did.

Gov. Perry has a lot of time to hear from us and adjust. Last I heard, Romney and Perry had raised about 17 million each. Cain has raised about a million.
It will be Romney and Perry and, if the Grand Old Party wants to survive, it will finally be Perry. Perry will be very much like Reagan, maybe even better.
That’s the way I see it, a year and then a few years from now.

Bravo, Rick Perry! The U.N. is a failure as an idea and as an institution. Time we ceased wasting taxpayer money on it.

You know, I'm heading down to Dallas in about a week and a half. I'll have to be sure to thank the good people of Texas for sharing their governor with the rest of the nation for eight years!

Sorry to disappoint my friends here, but we have much bigger catastrophies to deal with, and defunding the UN is the type of issue that can be called “red meat”, that I don’t know too many conservatives who would disagree with, but that is small potatoes compared to the mountain of debt we have. Dealing with “entitlements” once and for all is the only way to shrink government and debt.
