Los Angeles schools Supt. John Deasy condemned the alleged anti-Semitic remarks by a district employee taking part in the Occupy Los Angeles protest and said she would no longer work for the school system.
In a video that gained traction in the conservative blogosphere, Patricia McAllister, a substitute teacher for L.A. Unified, said that Jews run the nation's banking infrastructure and should be forced from the U.S.
"I think that the Zionist Jews who are running these big banks and our Federal Reserve, which is not run by the federal government -- they need to be run out of this country," McAllister said in the video by Reason.tv, a Libertarian-leaning news organization. She said in the video that she was an employee of L.A. Unified, although she was representing herself at the protest.
Deasy, in a statement released Tuesday, acknowledged that McAllister was offering her "private opinions" and said the district recognizes "the law is very protective of the freedom of speech rights of public employees when they are speaking as private citizens during non-working time."
However, Deasy said McAllister, as a day-to-day substitute teacher, was an at-will employee, and as of Tuesday she was no longer employed by the district.

No offense, but I just don’t believe this. She will still wind up working for them somehow. Or get strings pulled by LAUSD to work in another district.
Good! And she was incorrect besides being wrong. Her kind disproportionately occupy most boards and political positions—not Jewish people.

It treats employees with exactly the opposite philosophy from that which gives incompetent CEOs iron clad employment contracts that reward and protect them even when they totally destroy companies such as Fiorina, Hurd and Apotheker did to HP, and then they walk away with $45 million. It’s one example of how the double standard of crony capitalism works against the most basic concept of accountability in the USA.

If she had tenure they would be defending her first amendment rights.

Black antisemitism is a significant factor in the Democrat Party's movement toward an "even handed" policy in the Israel-Arab conflict, as Democrat strategists all too frequently follow the notion that appeasing their anti-Israel black constituency offers more political rewards than risks.
My guess is that there will be litigation supported by the ACLU on Ms. McAllister's behalf against the school district, claiming that the firing violated her First Amendment right to freedom of speech.
Yes, black antisemitism has largely been a taboo subject in leftist circles, especially Jewish Left circles. There was a well-founded reason for this: they want to avoid splintering the Democrat voting coalition. In a strange way it's fortunate when black antisemitism comes to attention like this, because many Jews and well-meaning blacks might be repelled to the point of leaving the sewer of OWS supporters, and might be convinced to say NO to Obama and the Democrats at the polls next November.
Unfortunately Jewish history tells us that whenever mobs of people gather to protest “bankers” they are this || close to turning into an anti-Jewish hate fest. It is just a fact of historic record. Jews with any sense of their history probably cringe at the OWS movement. People like this woman only serve to validate those fears. It brings them out.
This is not to say criticism of banks, banking practices, or the Federal Reserve is anti-Semitic. Criticizing ideas and practices is fine and good. It is better when you have solutions, but criticism is fair. And people are free to hate. But people who willingly, knowingly and deliberately associate themselves with hateful people will come to be known as hateful people themselves.
Jews marched with civil rights folks and some were even murdered.
That's commonly known among older blacks who lived through that era, who are statistically less likely to have antisemitic views than younger blacks.
Yes, equating "bankers" with "Jews" stems historically from medieval and Renaissance Europe, where Jews were instrumental in creating what became modern banking. (Those Jews were filling a societal need, as Christians were banned by the Catholic Church's prohibition of usury.) So bankers evolved into a popular stereotype of Jews among antisemites.
In the United States historically, though, Jews have had very little participation in the banking industry until relatively recently.
