In the first threat of its kind, a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee in the Iranian parliament, Mohammad Karim Abedi, stated that Iran was capable of occupying Saudi Arabia if it chooses to do so.
"Iran's military forces have the ability to strip Saudi Arabia of its security whenever it wants and Saudi Arabia will not be capable of responding," he said.

Don't forget, "Necessity is the Mother of Invention", we'll find a way to deal with it.
Sunni vs Shia wiping each other out to see who gets control of Mecca. Sounds like a popcorn event to me.
Many do not understand the Middle East well enough to recognize the absolute correctness of your statement shared over essentially all the Arab Nations.
Without any intervention from the US, this is probably a true statement.
Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States are not oblivious to the threat to the region, indeed to world peace, posed by Iran.
These countries have been modernizing their militaries, have been quietly replacing central Asian Muslims among their guest workers with east Asian and African Muslims, and have been quietly extending citizenship to migrant workers, in order to better resist the Iranian threat.
They have also been engaging their own people, holding elections, enfranchising women, and so forth, admittedly slowly in Saudi Arabia, again for the same purpose, to increase national identity and patriotism.
There is, of course, no path to Saudi Arabia except through countries with which we have close ties. We have FTAs and Major Non-Nato Military alliances with almost all of the Gulf States. The lack of religious freedom in Saudi Arabia makes such a close relationship impossible at this time. But, who knows, with continuing change, even at a slow rate, we may be able to negotiate an FTA and military alliance with Saudi Arabia in the future.
We, being the United States, truly wish for every nation in the world to be militarily secure, democratic, prosperous and free. We understand that cultures differ. We don’t require Singapore, for example, to de-criminalize chewing gum. But, we do attach some limits to close association.
And let’s not forget that our long-time ally Turkey is now staring in the eye of the dictator of Syria. One by one, the dictators of the world will be taken out, not that every step in the path is in the right direction.
Well, I want to know who thinks they want to “control” those two places???
The new mode of thinking in Iran is to “wipe” places off the map...
Looks like they are sending a signal of some sort...
But limiting and controlling access to Medina and Mecca give them power, if they actually could do it.
SA has been preparing for an Iranian attack since 1979. It would be suicide for the Iranians.
They could do it with WMD but then they would most probably destroy what they were fighting to control and that would align every Muslim on the planet against them. Old song, "You always hurt the one you love..."

But we tend to lok at things where we (our culture and faith) value the gift of life...
I do not see ANYTHING in “their” faith that stands for ANYTHING but deceipt, treachery, domination and death to those that do not believe as they do...
So as far as I am concerned, they’d rather destroy and lay waste to something, than try to administer and control something that would become more of a liability, both culturally and politically...
They’ll take the constant retribution in a heartbeat, because that is what they understand and live for...
Its a real shame...
But then again, maybe that is OUR challenge...That is what has been put on our plate to digest...
Man screwed up their chance to live a life like a bowl of cherries a lonnnggggg time ago...So now our lives become a challenge, one to be grateful for that gift, and be mindful of others...We may dissagree with others during this time we have, but it is how we live that gift that makes it important...There are some people(s) that do not understand this concept, and we either take on that challenge to minister to them, or I believe it is safe to not do so in cases like this...
You have seen the sudden shift of Iran putting boats offshore in the US, playing international terrorist etc. The answer I believe is yes, they have loaded some nukes on their missiles. As their factories continue to churn out H-Bombs, they will be like hot coins in a child's pocket. Now the megalomania of Ibeenanutjob will drive him to seek attention by showing his power.
I suspect the primary target will be our troop concentrations in Iraq and Afghanistan along with the fleet in the Med. I suspect to pay back Russia for the H bomb factories and China for the ICBM's that target is mandatory.
Isaiah 17 describes the destruction of Damascus, the capitol city of Syria by something that makes the city uninhabitable for the rest of history. It also describes the decimation of the population as like an olive tree that has its olives shaken off, leaving one or two on a high branch. All this is done in one evening. It is part of a prophecy series that will be kicked off by the death of everyone in the Gaza Strip by a "cloud from the north".
So, when you see Gaza wiped out, hold on to your horses, the world is going to change. And I believe the sudden belligerence of Iran is a key to all of this.
Most of the imported workers in SA, though, are Palestinians or Pakistanis -- thus Sunni.
Your assertion that Iranis would be willing to support a Sunni coup, though, is probably correct.
I’m sure there are a lot of middle-aged Iranians licking their chops in anticipation of a little revenge for the Iraqis attacking their revolution in 1980 and causing the deat...ooops I mean martyring hundreds of thousands of young Iranian me... ooops I mean cannon fodder. We have a powder-keg scenario forming up here.
No Hajj for you!
Thanks Fennie.
Great. Go for it, Iran. Let’s see how cock-sure you are after your economy collapses, too.
Or they could drive AROUND Kuwait, through the Shiite sections of Iraq.
The OSA, Occupy Saudi Arabia movement, part of the
Arab Spring, no doubt. They are now accepting donations
and sleeping bags...
