Students in a Texas public high school were made to stand up and recite the Mexican national anthem and Mexican pledge of allegiance as part of a Spanish class assignment, but the school district maintains there was nothing wrong with the lesson.
Wearing red, white and green, students had to memorize the Mexican anthem and pledge and stand up and recite them in individually in front of the class.
That didnt go over well with sophomore Brenda Brinsdon. The 15-year-old sat down and refused to participate. She also caught it all on video.
I just thought it was out of hand, I didnt think it was right, she told The Blaze. Reciting pledges to Mexico and being loyal to it has nothing to do with learning Spanish.
She said she was particularly offended because the presentations in teacher Reyna Santoss class took place during Freedom Week, the week after the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks, and on U.S. Constitution Day the same day as Mexicos Independence Day.
Why are we doing their independence when its Freedom Week and its also Constitution Day? Brinsdon said.
Brinsdon said she complained to the school principal, Yvette Cavazo, who told her it was part of the curriculum and that she should participate.

Dang! Beat me to it.
...only by 9 seconds!
Un F’ing acceptable
This will be a required morning ritual in all Texas schools in 10 years.
That would be a cold day in hell before they coerced me into reciting the Mexican national anthem. They could throw me into detention for a week.I still would refuse.
Just part of the reconquista. Nothing to get worked up about. Pretty soon they will require Mexican ROTC.
I VERY much doubt that. Good grief...
Shouldn't they have been using SPAIN's stuff?............
Don’t mess with Texas.
If we make Rick Perry our President, we can stop being heartless and the entire country can become as welcoming as Texas is.
Si.
Hey this is McAllen TX in the Reo Grande Valley. I live down here and for all of you people who think this is a part of The good ole USA think again. This is Mexico! Other than me and about 3-5% of “other than Hispanic” people this is just a Mexican city. If you go in stores it’s all Spanish language. This is like east LA.
In 10-15 years Texas will be where California is today and it will be looking up to Michigan and Ohio.
Sorry, but that’s a fact. The state had one Hispanic for every three Anglos in 1980 but with your welcoming attitude toward illegals, Hispanics will outnumber Anglos by 2020.
It’s already to late. Texas has been messed with.
You have to love that ‘salute’ (/sarc).
Back in the 1950’s and 1960’s we had to learn the Marseilles, but that was in French class.
I haven’t taken a foreign language - so I’m going to ask some naive’ questions.
1. Do students taking German/French have to do something similar?
In the German class, they start out singing the “Horst Wessel Lied.”

The Mexican Navy has an ROTC program too... It’s inactive until they can afford a new Jon boat for training.
