Gov. Rick Perry is finding himself on unfamiliar battleground in the Republican nominating contest attacked hard from the right as the immigration and education policies he has supported to cultivate Hispanic voters put him directly at odds with the GOPs conservative base.
Perry opposes several immigration measures that Republicans like, including a U.S.-Mexico border fence and an Arizona-style legislation to require that police ask those they stop about immigration status. But the thing that continues to dog him on the campaign trail is the 2001 law he signed that allows illegal immigrants to pay in-state tuition to attend college.
Perry has refused to back away from the legislation, going as far as to suggest opponents of the law are heartless in a recent GOP debate. He expressed regret about that, and lately has tried to cast his decision in economic terms, saying he sought to make young illegal immigrants a positive for the Texas economy, rather than a drain on taxpayers.

Well, Rick... stratlin’s a great way to rip your pants...
GOP voters are a strange lot. The have values and standards unlike ‘RAT voters who will vote for a serial killer, a serial rapist or child molester as long as they have a “D” after their name.

The MSM is trying to paint Perry to the conservatives as too weak on illegal immigration, while they are painting him to the rest of the electorate as anti-immigrant because he is for securing the border. Quite a feat, but it seems like both sides are falling for the MSM con.
I’m not falling for any con. I’ve hated the Mexican Windsock since he first stepped into office.
With all of his pandering to illegals and contempt for US citizens, Perry still only manages to get 38% of the Hispanic vote.
Perry is translating “apres moi, le deluge” into Spanish.
He and his financial backers can be top dogs in the short-term, but his efforts to make Texas a friendly magnet for illegals and his desire to legalize the illegals only means that he is ensuring permanent socialist control in the future.
It’s the same selfish attitude of the Ruling Class in piling up $15 trillion in debt with little thought of how coming generations will pay that off.
You must have missed the recent several threads demonstrating Perry’s strong border security record.

What is your official title at Perry for El Presidente?
Head chupamedia...
If anyone is trying to pull off a con- it is Perry. Perry plays both sides, pandering to open border supporters trying to distance himself from “radicals” like me that want the laws enforced and no special treatment of illegals. At the same time he claims to be tough on border issues. A real tough fence he was straddling, then instead of explaining his actions he chose to insult those of us that are serious about border issues. That is when he fell off the fence and the MSM had nothing to do with it. He did it to himself.
Bye, Bye, extra crispy and mouthy TROLL!
I think that was pissant.
Bingo. Rick’s adept at running on both sides of the fence depending on who the audience is and his supporters have to blame the media to cover for him. Rick’ not shy about spending huge amounts of Texas taxpayer money to weave his story either.
The only thing you get when you straddle a fence is a sore crotch.
