Local UN group dedicated to Millennium goals

Traditionally, United Nations Day is celebrated in many cities across the country. Here in Santa Cruz, the United Nations Association will be celebrating with a parade on Oct. 22 on Pacific Avenue -- come rain or shine.

The theme of the noon rally following the parade is the Millennium Development Goals, an extension of the sustainability theme that came out of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development UNCED held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1992, called Agenda 21. I am aware that a radical group that opposes the UN uses Agenda 21 as a red flag.

If I am to be considered part of that "radical group" I wear that badge with honor. So the UN folks will be marching with the Occupy folks on Oct. 22. Could be interesting.
