I followed it all and do remember it vividly. The RVNs did well with US air support. When we withdrew it they crumpled. It is true that Congress cut off aid at the end, but they still had huge stockpiles in place. In any case, the whole goal of the NV was to bleed us until the American public got sick and demanded a withdrawal. They had a lot of help from various people on the left, but more than anything people just got sick of the war. Personally I blame Johnson for getting us into a war with no real plan to win. I just don’t see any comparison with Iraq.
Did we ever fight such a long, costly and important war and then pull out completely in 8 years?
Where next? South Korea and the DMZ perhaps?

Early in the 20th Century, Communists promoted their cause openly, and there is proof that Joe Stalin funded numerous Communist front groups (ACLU), Lenin had sent operatives as well. The New York Times had Soviet reporters that fully informed them of Stalin's genocides, and they published not a word.
Before WWII they all went to ground because they were attracting the attention of anti communists, and continued with the infiltration and sabotage to this very day ("environmentalists").

Wow for once we agree. He will try to fulfill the rest if his malfeasance just in time for the election.
We did not lose in Vietnam.
We signed a peace agreement and then pulled our troops out.
It was the refusal of the Democratic Congress, after Watergate, to honor our commitment to S.Vietnam when the Communists (surprise) broke the peace agreement.
First thing I thought of when I saw the headline.
The denial shows this is being floated and of course will be market-tested.
I'd say this admin's obviousness is shocking, but the Occupy folks prove that doesn't matter.
And don't think for one minute that he hasn't cut a deal with the weird beards in Iran to keep things quite over there until after the 2012 election. He'd do that in a heart beat. You keep a lid on things and we won't blow up your nuclear bomb program.
This action is chilling to anyone with a working brain. He would literally sink Iraq back into chaos just to insure four more years of golf.
