Rick Perry unveiled an energy plan Friday that he said would lead to a job boom but would also strip federal regulations for clean air and usher in an open season for drilling on federal lands and American coastlines.
Speaking outside a steel plant in suburban Pennsylvania, Perry rolled out his plan, designed to put him into the discussion with rival Mitt Romney’s 150-page jobs plan and Herman Cain’s 9-9-9 tax policy.
“The quickest way to give our economy a shot in the arm is to deploy American ingenuity to tap American energy. But we can only do that if environmental bureaucrats are told to stand down,” Perry said.
His said his plan would create 1.2 million jobs and help end the nation’s reliance on foreign oil.
It would open up millions of acres in Alaska — including the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge — and western states to oil and gas drilling. In addition, the Gulf Coast, the southern Atlantic coast, and Alaskan seas would be open, and the 1,700-mile Canada-to-Texas Keystone XL pipeline would be approved.
He said that other than the wildlife refuge, most of the lands could be thrown open through executive action and without congressional consent.
The other aspect of the plan deals with suspending large swaths of the Clean Air and Endangered Species Acts, dismantling the Environmental Protection Agency and cutting its budget by 60 percent.

Thats for sure. The feds own most of the western states and that means they aren’t taxed. Put the land back on the state tax rolls...Of course some of the land is not useable for homes. Living in the desert is not the easiest thing to do....
This heartless racist old lady doesn’t trust Perry any farther than I could throw him.. Talk is cheap when your behind.

Actually, you need someone that can actually win, before trying to figure out if they could be a great president. Perry has ANGERED the base immensely and will get about as much support from them as McCain got. So it really doesn’t matter how he’ll govern nationally, since he’ll never get that chance.

Texas Commissioner Barry Smitherman Says EPA will Turn off Power to Air Conditioners in Summer Heat
Texas Railroad Commissioner Barry Smitherman spoke at the State Republican Executive Meeting in Austin, TX on October 1st, 2011.
His message was clear.
Obama’s New EPA Rules will cause Texas to shut down power plants, which will mean that homes could go without power (Lights and even Air Conditioning) in the middle of next year’s 2012 Texas Summer heat.
Texas is fighting tooth and nail to stop this rule form going into effect. Barry Smitherman is fighting too and he is part of every lawsuit that Texas has against the EPA.
It is already enough that Texas has to fight the Federal Government over our right to drill in Texas. The reason the Feds do not want us to drill for our own oil is because of a lizard that is not even endangered. Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson explains that situation here
So back to the EPA...
Smitherman says that the EPA could not get Cap and Trade passed though the United States Congress so the EPA is trying to do it on its own without going through Congress.
Back in July 2009, Smitherman wrote an article for the Houston Chronicle titled “Texans Will Pay a Price for Cap and Trade”Smitherman was right, and even though Cap and Trade did not pass, Texans will still pay a huge price if the EPA bullies their way into controlling the affairs of Texas through backdoor channels.
Specifically, if the EPA has its way, Texas will be forced to shut down many power plants which will cause a shortage of energy. This could be deadly in the Texas Summer heat for the sick and elderly.
Texas Governor Rick Perry, a 2012 Republican presidential candidate, is fighting back against this potential power shutdown and has said that the EPA rule “threatens Texas jobs & families.”
Believe me, I’m already investigating buying a primary generator for my house (i.e., $10k to $15k). This cross-state pollution law is looking at shutting down 20% of our capacity...and the first big loads to go will be air conditioning. My biggest issue right now is getting the 1,000 lb. beast from the curb to the spot where it’s needed. The rest of the installation I can do in my sleep.
I figure that any of the candidates, other than Romney, will take care of this ‘issue’. I just hope that Perry that doesn’t wind up stealing too many votes from Cain to orchestrate Romney’s victory.

As I noted before, I’m more than aware of the Cross-state pollution rules and how they will wreck Texas. I’ve also read two books on the starvation in North Korea...it all started when the power plants shut off.
My point about politics is that Perry is FINISHED as a credible candidate to take the Republican nomination. People got a taste of him (the same taste that I’ve had to deal with for a decade), and they don’t like him. Right now, all he can possibly do is be a stalking horse for Romney. If he stays in, he helps split the conservative vote, which works great for Romney. If Cain falls, then Newt will rise...but Perry is FINISHED.

I personally think Perry could make an excellent president on his overall record. And even though I think he has to improve his debate performances, I don't put a lot of stock in debating skills. He does have to give a good speech to the general public explaining his programs in a coherent fashion. Obviously, Texans must feel performance is a lot more important than polish, since he's been governor for ten years.
In Nevada our public lands were taken from us as an unconstitutional condition of statehood.
Nice way to reward us for our gold funding the union side of the “Civil War”!
The Fed. claim control of over 87% of ALL land in Nevada, there are not enough immediate buyers for this undeveloped land.
If it were under state control grazing fee’s, mining taxes, “Wilderness”, etc would be controlled by our state legislature which is more directly accountable to the citizens of Nevada.
Currently our land use is controlled by eastern liberals who have very, very, little “Public Land” in their own states.
Several of our counties have so little taxable land that citizens of other counties are compelled to contribute to their basic services.
So far none of our governors or state legislatures have had the courage to tackle this issue.
Until we control of more of our states resources we will never have a stable economy.
If ANY of the EPA is left in place, it will eventually recur, like cancer.
The enabling legislation must be repealed.

i grew up in colorado with the same federal land, altho’ there is a lot more federal land in nevada.
but my point is, sell the land to nevadans, for private use by nevadans, etc.
businesses would boom. tax revenue would go up.
use the sales moeny to pay off the national debt.

Another TX Republican once advocated that, and Republican primary voters did not respond to Phil Gramm either. Apparently, in TX one must be a Bush to be considered for president.
Never thought of this, Joe; I have been privileged to drive across the country multiple times but never at one time from NY to CA.
