Pittsburgh--(ENEWSPF)--October 14, 2011. Today, Texas Governor and Republican presidential hopeful Rick Perry unveiled his energy plan for America. The plan, if implemented, will poison our air and water with toxic pollutants like soot, smog, arsenic, cadmium, dioxin, lead, and formaldehyde. It would also undercut safeguards from mercury, which is a neurotoxin and is known to harm developing fetuses.
“Rick Perry’s energy plan reads like a roadmap for making America’s kids sick,” said Sierra Club executive director Michael Brune. “Under this plan, we can expect to see much higher rates of asthma among children, and risk to pregnant women from mercury exposure. Republicans like Perry are putting polluters’ profits first and our kids’ health last. The Republican mantra should be ‘wheeze, baby, wheeze.”
Perry’s plan calls for scaling back basic EPA safeguards that protect our clean air and water. It would simultaneously expand development of dirty energy like coal, oil, and natural gas amounting to a one-two punch to Americans’ health.
“American families have enough to worry about,” Brune said. “They don’t need to spend more time taking their kids to the doctor or more money on hospital bills. The only people who stand to profit from this plan are overpaid oil, coal and natural gas CEOs.”
“Dismantling the EPA and assuming that states are properly watching over natural gas drilling is dangerous and puts the health of our families and communities at risk.”
Perry’s plan would also undercut the expansion of jobs in industries like solar—the fastest-growing industry in the energy sector.
“There’s a solution to the current epidemic of pollution-related illness that will also create good, lasting local jobs, and secure America’s energy independence,” said Brune. “It’s clean energy. America’s clean energy industry is strong and thriving, even in this down economy. Rick Perry’s plan would stifle that growth and return our country to a dirty, antiquated energy system. Under his plan, we’ll see asthma rates among American kids soar, while countries like China surpass us in reaping the benefits from clean energy like solar and wind."
In fact, America is predicted to become the world’s leader in solar energy by 2014, and in 2010, the U.S. was a net exporter of solar by $2 billion. Solar energy creates seven times more jobs than coal, nuclear and natural gas.

It's no surprise that you wouldn't recognize self-government when you saw it. Hence, it fits that you would support an empty-suit statist like Perry.

You put way to much thought into this. I worry about your sanity more than your motives for making up lists about posters. Your periodic call for others to be banned from FR is paranoia.

It’s not so bad eating roots and berries.
Here is a recipe for one of the EPA’s most popular recipes, Root Soup with a Texas Jalapeno flair in honor of Texas Governor Rick Perry.
Root Soup
5 Large Plum Tomatoes
1 Large Red Pepper
1/2 Medium Beet
1/4 C Pine Nuts
1/2 Small Jalapeno Chili Pepper (to taste)
1 clove of garlic
1/4C Chives
1T Horseradish
Put all except chives into a high powered blender and blend until smooth and creamy - sprinkle with chopped chives. Nice cold or warm. Nice topped with a small dollop of fermented cashew nut cheese.

Better qualified: Newt, Santorum, Johnson, and Huntsman.
More intelligent: To the above add Romney, Bachmann and Cain.
More conservative: all of the above except Rommey, Johnson, and Huntsman. Newt is close to a tie.
That leaves Santorum, Bachmann, and Cain as probably better choices to be President. Politically, the first two have flamed. That leaves Cain. Am I happy about 9-9-9? No, but a NRST won't pass the Congress anyway. Perry is sinking while Cain is ascendant and polls better against both Romney and Zero. Not a bad indicator at this point.
I completely agree with you analysis of the candidates.
I receive emails from the Sierra club because I attended a meeting opposing the coal terminal in my county in WA state. I now have a new opinion of the Sierra club, from those emails. Most of the members of the Sierra Club seem to be well-intentioned dupes that just aren’t that smart.
One of issues that was covered in the last email notice was mercury in tuna. They warned that coal burning power plants could be polluting your tunafish sandwich with mercury because the coal burning power plants were polluting lakes streams.
The lawyers who run it are another matter.

Burning coal does introduce a lot of mercury, but a forest or brush fire in a cinnabar formation produces a lot more. The amount released from coal plants compared to background sources is not that big a deal and it could be a lot less if there was an economic reason to invest in new plants. With the threat of the Sierra Club around, regulatory risk becomes a big part of that decision.
You'll note that I didn't list Romney as "better qualified." There is a reason. Anybody who institutes an effectively socialized market in healthcare is too crooked to consider as "qualified" to be President. Anyone who engages in situational policy preferences without a serious explanation for the change is too dishonest to consider (Perry falls under that category too). Romney fails both.
