Bush and the RNC pushed him hard to do it and even threatened him financially for not getting on board.

I was quite sure about the push, but I didn't know about the financial threats. Bush was a lot better than Hussein, but I really like Bush less and less all the time.

I think the real culprit in these thug tactics was Rove. Most of the misery that GOP is in today is because of his short sighted maneuvers to stay in power and win in ‘04.
