SAN DIEGO (AP) -- San Diego police on Friday used pepper spray to break up a human chain formed by anti-Wall Street demonstrators at a downtown plaza where they've camped for a week.
Police in the early morning began removing about a half-dozen tents after warning demonstrators their personal belongings couldn't stay in the Occupy San Diego camp. Demonstrators can continue protesting without the tents, tarps and tables, authorities said.
One man was arrested before 8 a.m. for interfering with a police officer after he sat down and refused to take away his tent, police Lt. Andra Brown said. After he and his tent were removed, other demonstrators erected another tent and formed a human chain around it.
Shortly before noon, officers pulled apart the protesters and used pepper spray to disperse them.
No one was arrested or injured during that action, assistant Chief Boyd Long said. But protesters said several demonstrators were suffering burning eyes from the pepper spray.

Pepper spray? Don’t they have tasers. If they are all holding hands it would be interesting. Get them all in one shot. A quivering, jerking, screaming ring of hippies. I’d pay money to see that.
I bet they smell a whole hell of a lot better after they were sprayed. Filthy hippies.
several demonstrators were suffering burning eyes from the pepper spray./ LOL
I’m surprised the pepper spray worked seeing it had to get thru a weeks worth of oil, dirt and filth. Yuck!
Now, I am not a jeanious, but I couldda guessed this one my own without the reporter implying this little nugget of obvious...ya think?
I give $20 for a view of that...
Now, that is how you handle the “Occupy” protests. Protest if you must, after all, it is a constitutional right.
However, it is not a constitutional right to homestead a protest site. March, protest, yell and carry signs ... but, go home at night, come back the next day and do your best.
Pepper spray is not vegan.
As the old saying goes, journalism is unskilled labor.
With any luck, some of them were wearing “Ron Paul For President” T-shirts as they got zapped.
Even if they weren’t, I’m going to pretend that they were. The thought of that just makes me :)
And am I missing something here???? Protesters AND demonstrators, both? Which is it? Are you protesting or are you demonstrating? (BTW, the first part of demonstrator is "demon"...but I'm just sayin')
Let's just go right ahead and make it simple and call them all commie, liberal, fascist basturds...could efficiently cut out a word or two in that reporter's sentence.
I think the time has come to employ napalm at every OWS event. It cleans and disenfects very nicely.
This shocks me. I didn’t realize there were any alpha males left in San Diego, esp. in the Police Department.
So you are under the impression that there are no Paulites in attendance? Silly you. This Bull$#!t was tailor made for them. Dope, free love and idiocy.
Lump them in with Shakespeare's desire for lawyers
By golly, you’re right.
Perhaps our friend from earlier today was there. He’s yet to refute anything I sent him.
Freeping all day is fun! Too bad I have to go back to work tomorrow.
Indeed.
We stayed 2-3 blocks from the protest site last year at the historic U.S. Grant hotel. I was really surprised at all the street people they let homestead in the (quite small) parks in the Gaslamp District. Here is the main restaurant and nightlife district for downtown San Diego, and the area has quite a lot of vagrants occupying every bench in the parks.
So I guess I’m a little surprised they’re coming down on the OWS/OSD people. I wonder how they distinguish them from the normal urban outdoorsman population that they (at least last year) let hang out?
Pepper spray is a Green Product.
Use of Pepper spray creates Green jobs.
This is a good thing,
Become a Slumlord. You can spend all day FReeping as long as a tenant doesn't call about a backed up toilet. LOL.
