Sidenote: Known as the Cockney Sinatra, Matt Monroe was born Terry Parsons in north London in 1930. Written by David Matthews, "We're Gonna Change The World" is a satirical song about women's liberation, which was not a hit in either the US or the UK, but was nevertheless widely played and was used in a popular TV commercial for Kellogg's Cornflakes in the 70s!

Sidenote: Loudness are a Van Halen inspired band from Japan whose first three albums were entirely in Japanese. By 1985 they had transitioned to English (for the most part) and signed with Atlantic Records.

Sidenote: This idealogical anthem of the peace movement was originally released on the Graham Nash album Songs For Beginners, May 28, 1971, and was sung by the former member of The Hollies. Written by David Crosby, it begins with, "Your brother's bound and gagged and they've chained him to a chair" referring to black activist Bobby Seale, co-founder of the Black Panther Party. In 1969 Seale was indicted in Chicago for conspiracy to incite riots during the Democratic national convention the previous year. The court refused to allow him to have his choice of lawyer. When Seale repeatedly rose to insist that he was being denied his constitutional right to counsel, the judge ordered him bound and gagged. He was convicted of 16 counts of contempt and sentenced to four years in prison. In 1970–71 he and a co-defendant were tried for the 1969 murder of a Black Panther suspected of being a police informer. The six-month-long trial ended with a hung jury. It was one of the pivotal events in my youth that led to my eventually becoming a conservative, taking the line "Won't you please come to Chicago or else join the other side" to heart. Perhaps Seale was treated unfairly by Judge Julius Hoffman, as evidence against him was slim and Seale was a last minute replacement in the trial for Eldridge Cleaver. He had been in Chicago for only two days of the convention and probably denied his rights to counsel, but the judge eventually ordered Seale severed from the case, hence the "Chicago eight" became the "Chicago Seven".

A follower of Malcolm X, he joined together with Huey Newton in October 1966 to create the Black Panther Party for Self Defense and adopted Malcolm's slogan “Freedom by any means necessary”. When the battle line's were being drawn and the peace movement tuned to advocating violence, I reached the end of the road with the pacifists and by 1974 had enlisted in the Navy after surviving several draft lotteries. I saw hypocrisy on both sides and vowed to work within the system to change it rather than destroy it through revolution. Bobby Seale was not the kind of guy not to take home to meet mom.
