Under Cain’s plan, with EVERYONE paying the same rates, there will be hell to pay for politicians voting to raise taxes. No more class warfare games, this would be a major blow to the progressive liberals. Problem is selling it to the public in the general election.

No? How long do you think it will be before that 9% for "the rich" becomes 10%, or 11%, or 12%?

The left will ALWAYS try to raise taxes, no matter what system is in place.

They will try to raise the Fair Tax to 27%, the Flat Tax to 30%...it doesn’t matter.

It doesn’t make sense to discount an entire tax plan because the left will try to raise the rates. Of course they will!!! It’s what the left does.

At least 999 will make it obvious when they do try to raise it. It won’t be as hidden.

So, how does that differ from what they can and have done with the current tax code? Yeah, there isn't a national sales tax, but if there were, all those not currently paying taxes in the bottom 47% (whatever the percentage is) will have to pay something and 9% income tax payers will have more disposable income than they do now to cover the additional sales tax.

9-9-9? Yes! Yes! Yes!

Typical Perry Zombie thinking. Why bother doing anything because someone can just change it again later?

Only the income tax portion could possibly be affected like that. And yes, it is a risk. And Congress can raise income taxes on the rich today, at any time, without a Constitutional amendment. So this is no worse in that one respect than the current system, and far better in many more important respects.

It's not a graduated tax. It's a flat tax. There aren't special higher rates for "rich" and special lower rates for "poor". Everyone pays the same.

So when congress tries to raise the rate, they won't be able to target just a small percentage of the people like they can now, they'll be raising the rate on *everybody*. That will be an infinitely harder task than it is now.

Same critic applies even more so to the current tax code. So find a new attack line Perrybot cause that dog won't hunt. Congress can simply raise tax rates anytime it wants to now.

It would be harder to raise taxes under 9-9-9 because everyone pays so everyone would know they would be paying more.

Right now given all the loopholes and gimmicks they hid most taxation behind a fake screen of "it's only a tax on Business" or "it's only a tax on the rich" 9-9-9 takes that away. Everyone pays therefore no one thinks they are getting a free ride if taxes goes up
