Ever wonder why candidates rarely have their spouses take the stump? Rick Perry's wife Anita told a South Carolina religious forum yesterday that she and her husband "were being brutalized by our opponents, and our own party. So much of that is, I think they look at him, because of his faith. He is the only true conservative -- well, there are some true conservatives. And they're there for good reasons. And they may feel like God called them too. But I truly feel like we are here for that purpose."
While her speech was intended to improve the Texas Governor's rapport with Christian conservatives after his poor showing in last weekend's Values Voter straw poll, (Mr. Perry came in a distant fourth, following Ron Paul, Herman Cain and Rick Santorum), she may have done more to alienate those voters than to help the cause.
Suggesting that voters who've turned against the Texas governor are religious bigots isn't likely to win them back.

This was a bad bad mistake by the Perry camp. It makes Perry look weak and whiny.

Conservatives are just a bunch of heartless fools, I guess....

I don’t remember the “one” ever having to do much more than say he didn’t remember any of the Rev. Wright’s sermons.

As Cain so eloquently put it : The only problem with that analysis is, it's wrong. These voters that she is referring to were not going to vote for Perry to begin with so there is no "winning them back" to be done.

If my husband ever ran for office, I’d voluntarily hide myself in a hole for his campaign and term of service. :-)
It seems that my foot is permanently stuck in my mouth! lol!

Ok, theres just something creepy about an aggressive wife who wants to be first lady so badly, she pushes her reluctant husband in front of a high-speed train to acheive her ambition.

Surely not, you'd be out there with your man, proud of him and ready to tell anybody that he is the best whether they believed it or not.

Same here. It's called foot-in-mouth disease, I have it too. :)

Considering the fact that Ron Paul won this screwy straw poll, I wouldn’t have bothered with it.
To: Essie
It was the Wall Street Journal that suggested it.....
