Rick Perry Unveils Plan to Create 1.2 Million Jobs (Repeal of EPA Authority over Greenhouse gases)

Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry outlined plans Friday to dramatically increase U.S. energy production and create 1.2 million jobs, taking aim at federal regulations he said are strangling the economy.

Perry's announcement at a U.S. Steel plant in a suburb near Pittsburgh came as the Texas governor seeks to shore up his campaign for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination after a series of shaky debate performances and distractions knocked him out of the front-runner position.

Perry said if elected in 2012 he would sign a series of executive orders in the first 100 days of his administration to roll back federal regulations and open up more areas for oil and gas exploration.

He would repeal the Environmental Protection Agency's authority over greenhouse gases blamed for global warming and eliminate all current and planned EPA programs to restrict carbon dioxide emissions.

``We are standing atop the next American economic boom -- energy,'' Perry said. ``The quickest way to give our economy a shot in the arm is to deploy American ingenuity to tap American energy. But we can only do that if environmental bureaucrats are told to stand down.''

Perry sprinkled his remarks with a harsh denunciation of Democratic President Barack Obama, who he said is responsible for ``activist regulations'' that have made it more difficult to extract energy resources. Obama has favored green technologies that are not producing as many jobs as promised, he said.

``His energy policies are driven by the concerns of activists in his party, my policies are driven by concerns of American workers without jobs,'' Perry said.

It was the first of two speeches Perry is delivering to outline proposals to bring down the 9.1% U.S. unemployment rate, the main issue in the campaign. His second speech, expected around Oct. 25, is focused on tax reform,

Perry can be head of EPA. For president (of the US), never.

This is a position for pro-us people only. Illegal panderers do not need to apply.

Won’t take much of a speech to say “I’ll just adopt the 9-9-9”

I notice that FOX rewrote his speech a bit. His speech mentioned doing his plan through executive orders... not exactly different from our current administration.

ANWAR isn’t blocked by regulation alone. I believe that Congress has blocked drilling in ANWAR by law. Can the president override a law with a simple EO?

Drilling in ANWAR is prohibited by LAW, not just regulation. In 1973, Nixon signed the bill into law. A president can just nullify a law he doesn’t like with an EO.

(WARNING! *very* yellow webpage! lol!)

“The ANWR is a regulatory ban because the law prevents all producers from drilling oil in the Northern Slope in any manner.”

Does Perry seriously not know this??

And it’s not just ANWAR. Many of these areas are protected by both federal and state laws.

Yup! Good stuff.

Sounds a lot like what Cain wants to do.

He also wants to trim down gov’t to the bare bones, kill the DoE and the EPA, restructure our tax system (to simplify, make more fair and encourage business and innovation), secure our borders, deport illegal aliens, encourage legal immigration of immigrants that will actually contribute to our society, deregulate EVERYTHING, restructure social security to stop it from being a Ponzi scheme and turn it into an actual investment program for retirement...

I think I like Cain’s economic plan better.

You are short sighted about Rick Perry. Remember Texas pays no income tax they only have a sales tax. If you pay 3 years in Texas by living in Texas it is similar to residency status. Texas has to deal with immigration on a real time basis. Santorium’s criticism in the debate about out of state residents don't get tution breaks in Texas is ludicrous because there not in Texas paying sales tax for 3 years. It is the Federal Government job to deal with illegals. All the states can do is deal with a problem the states won't deal with because of Federal Government neglect. Texas decided to have working illegals not criminal illegals with no education. This was a cost decision in part for Texas. The US Supreme Court already ruled that illegals can not be denied education to grade 12 putting that cost burden on the states. What you and others are suggesting is that border states spend their money on criminal courts for illegals rather than having educated illegals who would live in Texas and pay the state's sales tax.Romney and Santorium are in Northern states not the first place illegals stop when entering the country.States deal with Federal neglect all the time. States have to choose what is the most cost effective way to run a state not what is always politically correct.

Every time Perry comes out with something good, like this energy plan, some supporter of welfare for illegals like you comes along and reminds us of why we can never vote for him.

Thanks!

It is within the president’s right to order the EPA to not regulate greenhouse gas. That is quite different than legislating via executive order, which is what the current administration does.
