You know, it's kind of the like the debate over the national sales tax. Men are not angels, particularly not the ones in government. Agreed?

And so how to limit their reach? We both probably agree that words on paper are not sufficient, correct? But here is where we might diverge. Some people insist that we just need to get the right people in there. We need the right judges. Control of the Senate, etc etc.

I say no. At some point the bad actors win enough votes, and do too much damage--more than is acceptable. And history has shown it's almost impossible to undo.

The only answer is to DENY THEM THE INSTRUMENTALITIES they use to do their harm. You simply have to find a way to live without the INFRASTRUCTURE of power.

And that's where opposition to a national sales tax comes in. I don't want more people paying federal taxes. I don't want a broader tax base. I want to see the federal structure all but dismantled.

I’m with you on “denying them the instrumentalities”.

Especially in the executive bureaucracy. Unaccountable positions of power attract control freak leftists like moths to a porchlight, and getting the “right” moths to come is not the answer, nor is turning off the light, because someone with just come along and turn it on again.

We’ve gotta “bust out the bulb” or “rip out the wiring”.

I see your point and I see (all around me) the problems you're rightfully trying to avoid.

What is missing is the check and balance of equal participation.

By making paying taxes everyone's responsibility instead of making a few pay everyone's taxes, we all will pay more attention to not only how much we pay, but how the money is spent!

With Cain's plan, we're all treated like and act like adults instead of acting like college students expecting the parents to pay our bills.

Hate to say it, but it's time to grow up America.

Pay your share, instead of taking what you can get.
(JFK said it better.)

You have a point, but less spending with revenue coming from a broader base would be better for all! And I would remove this phrase "this tax plan is revenue-neutral" from any tax reform. I desire better, more efficient programs with Representatives that have a constant goal of trying to cut spending wherever they can instead of looking for the next new program.

But as much as we dislike federal structure, we absolutely do need SOME strong areas or we will cease to be a sovereign country. A severely weak federal structure would invite attacks from many enemies.
