BREAKING: House passes Protect Life Act 251-172 - would stop abortion funding in Obamacare

The House of Representatives passed a measure Thursday evening in a 251-172 vote to amend the federal health care bill to include protections against federal tax funding of abortion, as well as strengthened conscience rights for health care providers.

The House cast the vote to pass the bill after voting in favor of a closed rule earlier in the day. The rule for the Protect Life Act, H.R. 358, had passed 248-173 nearly along party lines.

During much of the floor debate, Republicans emphasized the need to stop a massive influx of tax funding of abortion under the new health care reform legislation, while Democrats dismissed the bill as “extreme” and “cruel” and criticized Republicans for not focusing on job creation instead.

Why do we need this bill when everyone (including so called pro-life dems) said Obama care did not cover abortion?

/s

(note-the word "breaking" was in the original title)

Good point. Why veto something that forbids something you claim doesn’t exist?

Just like they stopped funding ACORN? Oh right, they didn’t. This admin is above a little thing like laws.

“This bill at its core is an attack on women, especially poor women,” said Rep. Betty Sutton (D-OH).

If poor women can't afford a child, then they need to close their legs. Murdering a child for irresponsible behavior is insane.

Nice of these folks to recognize that a decade or two from now that abortion will be viewed as killing our young! Guess they have seen the future. Some of us have seen the past and it is horrendous!

The old joke is that the Democrats propose to tear down the Washington Monument, and the Republicans respond with a plan to do it in three stages.

What are they trying to do, “fix” ObamaCare?

One comment I have on the legislation and one question...

The comment is that although I haven’t read the legislation I’d bet you a cup of coffee that it includes provisions to pay for the killing of some babies, contrary to the Constitution’s imperative requirement that every innocent person’s life be equally protected, and the GOP’s 27 year-old Reagan platform plank that recognizes the personhood of the child in the womb and their resultant protection by the explicit provisions of the Fourteenth Amendment.

The question is: Where is the vote from the Republican-controlled House to completely defund every single aspect of Obama’s utterly unconstitutional “health care plan”?

Of course Reid will prevent a vote in the Senate...and if that fails, Obama will veto it.

Very good point. If so, that’s a great pre-emptive strike against the evil ones.

They were just being real samrt in my opinion; Obamacare might or might not pass, but if it does, the act won’t be able to end up sneaking funding for abortion in the event via a subtle act or twist of bureaucratic wording. Or any additional clauses.

Because Democrats lie. The truth simply isn't in them.
