999 has no chance of passing. 999 won’t even get out of committee.

It has problems because Herman Cain probably thought it up while he was on the treadmill.

But it’s a starting point. You want a Flat Tax? A Fair Tax? Electing Herman Cain is the best chance you’re ever going to get to throw out the current tax code and implement a more sensible system.

I want a flat tax, personally, but I don’t think it is wise to run on that as a central economic plan to fix the economy. I am against introducting a new pot of money for Washington - a consumption tax.

Debates on reforming the tax system is better done once in office because it won’t win an election.

see post 13.

I would rather have the flat tax than this 9,9,9, which could go to 30,30, 30

Many elderly folks cannot afford to see another tax of 9% and no matter how this is spun then it is an extra tax

This is no quick gimmick like selling pizza, this is peoples lives and their money

seeing a Donald Trump have half of his taxes go down while those old folks see an increase is something which the left will use to destroy him and the GOP.

Get the flat tax which is better than this 999 plan , hell there is not even a way to stop this going to 50,50 ,50 in the future

The biggest problem with all of the hits against the 999 plan and the eventual FairTax plan is that everyone assumes it is on top of what we already have.

Do any of you doubters ever to consider that getting rid of the Permanent Political Class might change things just a little bit?

That people just might see much more in their paychecks each week?

That those same people would be more keen to how much tax they are paying and in such keeping far more pressure on their congresskritters to keep taxes down?

That just maybe more people would be disposed to saving for their future and not relying on SS for their needs after retirement?

It will not pass in the current congress...but if Cain wins, the likely congress that will come in with him may well pass it very early on.

For me...it is pretty simple.

The 9-9-9 tax is more simple and will save me the cost of an accountant each year. The tax itself will be less for me each year. It will give me more freedom in what I choose to buy and sell and the costs associated therewith.

It will remove worries, concerns and costs associated with trying to protect my inherticance for my children. It will remove the capital gains taxes I pay on investments.

Best of all...it will open up the economy and business in this nation producing many, many more jobs...resulting in more revenue for the government, and allowing this nation to have a much better chance of getting out of debt and bringing in the type of people who will control spending, vote for a balanced budget amendment, and end the liberal spin crazy, entitlement and give away mentality they have used for years to buy votes.

All good things for this nation.

IMHO, Herman Cain has the right attitude and message for renewal and restoration of America, her strength, her economy, and much, much closer adherance to and reverence for her constitution.

With the endorsement yesterday of Art Laffer, for Cain's 9-9-9 plan (Laffer is recognized as one of the brain child's of supply side economics), his momentum continues to rise.

“999 won’t even get out of committee.”

I agree. Like the plan or not, a change like this to our all too established tax system doesn’t just happen like that. I don’t think we should be overly afraid of a plan that if it did get approved would look much different than what Cain first proposed.

I don’t know enough about the plan to make comment on it, but my fear is Cain is playing all his chips on numbers 999. If it doesn’t gain in popularity he will not last long in the top spot.

I’d say exempt food and other necessities (or add the “prebate”) and make the rate 11%.

But “9-9-11” doesn’t sound good. In fact, it sounds too reminiscent of 9/11.

But it’s a starting point.

Exactly. All of the tax options (income, sales or "fair") have their problems, and all have the potential for congress to put their fat fingers in the pot.

What is "fair" about me paying double the sales tax I pay now, federal on top of state, and paying the feds a tax on my grocery purchases? Herman Cain is heartless.
