“trying to make Barack Obama without a teleprompter look like Pericles”

That’s such a ridiculous statement I can’t read further. B.O without a telepropter!!

I used to read IWF everyday and then one day I stopped and forgot all about it. This piece reminds me of why I quit reading Charlotte Hays years ago.

"Some have suggested that Palin take courses and learn more about history and policy (I am picturing her as Meg Ryan in I.Q.). I don’t see that happening. She is a gut politician. But she could bone up some and learn not to get down on the media’s level. She was probably plucked prematurely from Alaska, but that can’t be remedied."

The country does.

By not running, Palin preserves her status as a power broker in the Republican Party, which could have been diminished by a bad showing in the primaries.

Palin is not a power broker in the Republican party. She's a power broker in the tea party grassroots. Palin is a thorn in the side of the Republican power brokers.

It’s hard to say. Some points were good, others were rediculous.

So this woman has a “friend” that refers to a Downs Syndrome person as a “pathetic” baby ? Not much interested in the rest of her judgment.

In her wisdom, she knew such a controversial (to the left) person that she is would bring the kooks out of the woodwork on the left and on the right.

The GOP Good 'ol boys would have probably fought her as hard as the democrats would, and the vote would eventually be split enough to deny her the primary, and someone like the former Governor of Utah would win the nomination with 20% of the total vote.

If we think the media has tried to "gotcha" the current crop of candidates, think what they would have done if Sarah were on the panel.

The obama crowd is so desparate and crazy, and they KNOW Sarah would have wiped up the floor with obama, that her family probably had some concerns about her safety.

If she had run, and won, that would put heavy burdens on her whole family as they would all have to have 24/7 secret service protection.

I think Cain can probably pick up the "grass roots" conservatism slack, and is doing a good job of it at the moment. If he gets it, I would hope he picks Newt as his running mate, governmental advisor and media attack dog.

She is not part of the Republican party, as this article states. That is why I like her so much.

Mixed feelings. Partly she is being praised for not disturbing the business as usual GOP nomenklatura, who I wish a swift and complete obscurity just one step behind that of their “frensh the other shide of the aisle”. There are some other gratuitous and cliched digs in there. That is the down side. On the positive side, there is some effort made here towards an objective analysis. I just look at the existing field and wish, once again, that she had run.

He makes a good point. If she hadn’t done well in the primaries she might have been viewed as damaged goods by some. I think by sitting this one out, the question remains in everyone’s minds, “What will she do next?” instead of behind a has-been from this primary season.

RE “She did the right thing by her country, her party, and by herself. By not running, Palin preserves her status as a power broker in the Republican Party, which could have been diminished by a bad showing in the primaries. She will be big in 2012, bigger than if she'd launched a failed presidential bid. .....Sarah Palin is one smart gal.

What happened to the fire..?

Palin had the fire

One of my Georgetown liberal friends and I agreed that we just shouldn’t talk about her. Fine with me, but my friend called with daily bulletins. An itch that had to be scratched, Palin was criticized by my friend for having had “that pathetic baby,” a particularly brutal reference to Trig, who has Down syndrome.

Name please, Charlotte. A true Conservative woman wouldn't have "liberal friends" that spoke in this manner about an infant, especially a "woman".

A conservative that sets no standard of behavior for their friendship is not conservative enough for me.

Kind of a dopey article, but the salient point is, Palin will continue to wield influence - on HER terms - and will be young and in great shape for future elections after her family situation is more conducive. As much as we wanted to see her run this time, we also know objectively, she would have had difficulty outside of the core conservative base. Yet Herman Cain has emerged as the best alternative, and according to research reported tonight by Juan Williams, he can probably win at least 30% of the African American vote, which Republicans have basically written off. So I’m OK with Palin being the kingmaker and keeping her powder dry this go-round.
