Contrary to Caplans opinion, DS is not something almost universally sought to be avoided. Moreover, sharing accurate information about DS, the newest of which is overwhelmingly positive, can and will change expectant parents views following a prenatal diagnosis. This is in the best interest not only of those who are conceived with Down syndrome, but also of those who are blessed to know them. Very true.

Not to be insensitive to parent of autistic children, but in some cases autism is much more severe than DS. However, there is no test for autism. So a couple could abort a DS baby and then give birth to a child with severe autism or many other untestable medical conditions. So the ignorance in my opinion is that people think they are in control..

Convenience. That's why. Same reason for most abortions. Convenience.
It's not right either.

Because they are more work than most kids without DS.
Even as adults they normally need babysitting, they will never be “on their own,” get a job, etc., they basically never grow up. Maybe some very very high functioning ones.
This does not devalue them in my eyes but that’s the reasoning of the aborters. The kids are extremely happy and well adjusted, usually.

They’re aborted ‘cause the children would be an inconvenience in the parents’ lives. It’s as simple as that.

There are very few people on this earth whose friendship I would cherish more than that of my (now-deceased, DS) neighbor "Donald". He was amazingly perceptive, and unfailingly loving. Example:
On the day our house burned, Donald recognized that my son's old dog was badly frightened by all the commotion. So he went back home and loaded his pockets with doggie treats. When I first noticed him, Donald was sitting on the curb, with his arm around old "Colonel", was feeding him treats, and talking quietly and soothingly to him. Donald usually stuttered so badly as to be incomprehensible - but, as I walked up behind the two of them, I realized that he was speaking to the dog with perfect clarity!
And our first dollar of help came from Donald, who handed it to our neighbor that same day, saying, "I think my friends are gonna need help..."
When I get to Heaven, one of the first saints I am going to look up is -- Donald...
God rest you, my Friend!
